  1. If he was not aiming at torturing the data so as it dies saying what he wants just like a #climatedenier does all day & year long...

I am not sure it is unscientific/pseudoscientific to study something considered polemical or dubious

It is to study it with unscientific method that renders it: moot

This has all the hallmarks of a deliberate #ClimateDenier plot and the #FossilFuelIndustries prints are all over it.

Thank you for being the only other person I see on my feed talking about simplex its refreshing

Imo its the gold standard in private anonymous group messaging. Better than Signal, briar, cwtch, deltachat, meshtastic.

All of them have some benefit over simples whether it be signals ease of use and stability, briars ability to share the binary over bluetooth, cwtch's simple in-app gui for self hosting, deltachat's interoperability with email, or meshtastics resilience in mesh networks.

But only simplex has no profile ids, quantum resistant encryption, advanced invite/multi profile management, as well as being decentralized

I think that especially anarchists and activists should seek this level of privacy because compromised contacts can have their conversations with you be corroborated to show you are the same person when you have a static id even if its a random string

Since I don't get to talk to people who use simplex much I should mention why I dont talk to the people in public simplex rooms: it skews far right because the creator is a trans hating[1] climate denier with a bunch of other right wing beliefs I cant remember, you know the usual.

That being said the developers have very little control over what happens on even their own servers: they can disable invite links they dont like but not rooms (invites can easily be regenerated), they can remove file links that get reported but not messages, (files are deleted after 48h anyway bc its a relay network they cant delete it when group members have it cached) and if either of these are hosted on another simplex server since its decentralised they cant do anything

except ig the nuclear option to totally cut connection to stop their own users connecting to users on that other server. but simplex is fairly simple to self host, we should be moving away from the official servers anyway

  5. "Jeff Bezos’s $10bn philanthropic fund has stopped backing the world’s leading voluntary climate standard setter, following rising scrutiny over its influence on the body, in a move seen as the billionaire’s latest effort to curry favour with US President Donald Trump.

According to three people familiar with the decision, the Bezos Earth Fund has ended its support for the Science Based Targets initiative, a globally renowned body that holds sway over how companies such as Apple and H&M can achieve a credible “net zero” label.

The move comes after SBTi staff members raised concerns about the influence of the Bezos fund last year, and following reports by the Financial Times that both the fund and advisers to former US climate envoy John Kerry had backed a push for the organisation to allow widespread use of controversial carbon credits by companies.

The Bezos fund previously told the FT it did not “make decisions” with the SBTi or have any involvement in its stance on offsets.

Two people familiar with the funding relationship said they believed the move to pause funding of SBTi after December 2024 was partly down to Bezos not wanting to annoy Trump, who has previously described climate change as a hoax."

  7. Senator James Inhofe is dead.

He used his position to deny science and damage the environment, even wanting to criminalise science. From his threats to harm climate scientists he threatened their lives.

If he lived his private life like his public life, I expect most of his family is relieved to see him gone.

  8. #ClimateDenier "it's ok" argument shrivels.

"We show that the initial positive effect of eCO2-induced climate change on vegetation carbon uptake has declined recently, shifting to negative in the early 21st century. Such emerging pattern appears prominent in high latitudes and occurs in combination with a decrease of direct CO2 physiological effect, resulting in a sharp reduction of the current growth benefits induced by climate warming and CO2 fertilization."

  9. With the passage of time and the general terms of service of the universe as expressed in physics, #ClimateDenier howlers tend to become more ridiculous as they age.

Especially, wiggles in graphs lead to wishful thinking.

2010: "JAXA shows that we have more ice than any time on this date for the past 8 years."

The problem of trends remains unresolved in the denier playbook.

We've revised our treatment of this confusion. Opinions? Let us know!

  10. This proves to me that the last of the people who believe the conspiracy theories or are hard core deniers are essentially unscrupulous liars and charletans. They can and should be shouted down and ignored.

"A Quebec man who posted conspiracy theories online that forest fires were being deliberately set by the government has pleaded guilty to starting a series of fires himself”

  11. When the #GreenClimateFund was being established, Australia's Prime Minister was #TonyAbbott, a #ClimateDenier, who had won the 2013 federal election promising to dismantle the baby steps towards a #ClimatePolicy the previous #Labor government had made.

So there was little surprise when PM Abbott announced in Nov 2013 that #Australia would be contributing a massive sum of $0 to the Green Climate Fund.

At the time, he claimed Australia would chip in AU$200m (then =USD$187m) over four years, but since this was merely a rebranding of existing #ForeignAid, it clearly didn't count as "new and additional funding", a fact that most journalists blithely ignored, falling for the bait-and-switch. Or we might say instead that the Australian government was overstating its foreign aid commitments by $200m over those years.

Nonetheless, the four years were soon gone, as was Tony Abbott, as well as his successor #MalcolmTurnbull, who in turn had been replaced as PM by #ScottMorrison. When it came time to pledge again in 2018, Morrison announced Australia would be pulling out of the Green Climate Fund entirely, a path also taken by the #Trump administration at the time, whom Morrison was often cribbing notes from when it came to what kinds of #cruelty and #selfishness he could get away with.
