If it’s any consolation, I believe this talk of new nuclear is a smokescreen intended to provide cover for continued fossil fuel use as we’ll have to rely on that ‘in the meantime’ while we wait for the nukes to come online.I’m deeply skeptical that any construction for plants will actually break ground.
It’s just a #ClimateDelay tactic. (Hence why it has the full-throated support of the O&G industry)

The arguments made, and the article upthread is super helpful for laying them out (so I recommend reading it), amount to some people (i.e., national.representatives) with no apparent sense of the urgency arguing that "perfect is a friend of the good", it "just" requires more time--as if there's any to be had.
I'm sorry, even without their all-important report, it's obvious what the problem is: a lack of sense of the incredibly high risk of delay.
Stay until everyone sees it.
Bar the doors if need be.
There is no extra time, no time to plan comfortably, no time to get every detail right.
There is only now, and the too real possibility of no tomorrow.

An interesting takeaway from the English Local Elections was that candidates supporting Net Zero and stronger environmental policies did better than the pro mass motoring and climate denial/delay candidates.
It is odd that so much of the media don't want to report this, could it possibly have anything to do with the £2bn a year that the motor industry spends on advertising?

@jakob Nein, das sehe ich anders - gerade weil es eine sehr gut finanzierte und organisierte #Klima-#Gegenbewegung gibt, halte ich es für sehr wichtig, sich mit den Argumenten und dem #Framing von #ClimateDelay auseinanderzusetzen.
(Gleichzeitig müssen wir uns einsetzen, die Strukturen zu verändern, um #Klimaschutz und #Anpassung umsetzen zu können.)

Ich bin überzeugt: genau die, die heute #Klimaschutz & #Anpassung verzögern, werden in 10 Jahren fest davon überzeugt sein, daß die #Klimakrise nur eskaliert ist, weil wir nicht ausreichend Technologie-offen waren und zu wenig über "Lösungen mit Hausverstand" geredet haben...
