  1. @MatthewToadAgain
    You made me look again at the chart two years later. The "analysis is based on CO2 emissions from the burning of fossil fuels and cement production, along with land use, land use change and forestry (LULUCF)."

    I only now noticed two other magnitudes:
    * I would have expected NZ historical emissions to have been smaller (now i suspect deforestation).
    * India's figures are minuscule.
    Both make sense because the chart is "per capita".

    Here is the ref if you wish to explore more:
    Jones, M.W., Peters, G.P., Gasser, T. et al. "National contributions to climate change due to historical emissions of carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide since 1850" (2023). doi.org/10.1038/s41597-023-020

    At more thsn several hundred dolllars each ton removed, Canada would have (will have?) a bill of many trillions of dollars owed.

    If Canada ships it oil, Canadians will owe the world many trillions for carbon capture.

    Trillions, many thousands of billions

It worsens climate impacts and undermines preparedness by presenting inadequate measures as 1.5°C compatible. A fundamental rethink of the UK’s climate policy requires a consensus that is grounded in equity, scientific integrity and transformative ambition.”

    "The economist Fadhel Kaboub suggests a way out: the World Bank and IMF could lend money to historical polluters to help them pay for their #ClimateDebt to poor nations. "

    (But when Keynes proposed it in a different context, the US vetoed it).

    Past emissions from the British Empire "double the UK's climate responsibility", making it one of the biggest CO2 emitters in history. Carbon Brief, the British news website dedicated to global warming, takes into account carbon dioxide emissions from countries formerly under British colonial rule, mainly the destruction of forests in India, Burma and Nigeria before their independence. This new data moves the United Kingdom from eighth to fourth place in the list of countries with the highest historical emissions, behind the United States, China and Russia.
