A Plan for Equality & Prosperity Within Planetary Boundaries
A habitable world is possible"The Global Justice Report is part of a broader international agenda for planetary habitability, social justice, and reform of the global financial architecture."
"The Global Justice Project attempts to set out a new vision for global progress in the 21st century: grounding human development and equality in planetary habitability. It explores the conditions under which the world could move toward this horizon and traces an economically and ecologically consistent transition path from 2026 to 2100." >>
https://globaljusticeproject.wid.world/Summary: The Global Justice Report
A Plan for Equality & Prosperity Within Planetary Boundaries
"It is possible to reconcile planetary habitability and high well-being for all, but only if the transformation rests on three pillars simultaneously. Fast decarbonization of energy systems is necessary. But we also need a major shift toward sufficiency – understood as a sharp reduction in labour hours and material footprint and large changes in consumption patterns, food habits, land use, and forest cover. In addition, neither decarbonization nor sufficiency can be financed and politically sustained without a drastic reduction in inequality of income, wealth and power, both between countries and within them. The compression of global inequality is not only compatible with deep decarbonization; it is a necessary condition for shared prosperity on a finite planet." >>

Major oil firms make $93bn profits amid war and climate crisis
"Iran conflict windfall over three months reignites calls for companies ‘cashing in on human misery’ to pay for environmental damage."
"Eight of the biggest oil companies amassed profits of more than $90bn (£67bn) in just three months as the Iran conflict sent energy prices soaring and the emissions-fuelled climate crisis caused deadly heatwaves."
"Carbon emissions from the world’s biggest fossil fuel firms were directly linked to fatal spells of hot weather for the first time by scientific analysis published last September. It found the emissions from any one of the 14 biggest companies were each enough to cause more than 50 heatwaves that would otherwise have been virtually impossible." >>

The study found avg costs of $140B/year 2000-2019, though the figure varies year to year. The latest data shows $280B in costs in 2022. The researchers said lack of data, particularly in low-income countries, meant the figures were likely to be seriously underestimated. Additional #ClimateCosts, such as from crop yield declines & #SeaLevel rise, were also not included.

US property owners will be paying more for their insurance after re-insurers hike catastrophe rates by 30-50% due to climate change.

You should think of Cyclone Gabrielle and its successors as the true "ute tax", paid by all of us in order to indulge the selfish prick component of our population.

So now a prediction.
Who's going to pay the #climateCosts for the business and elite-driven delay in addressing #climatechange ?
Why, these will be paid by those of us who are still poor enough to pay our taxes. And the costs will be inflated - several times over - because those same business interests, lobbyists and politicians will demand COMPENSATION for the loss of future profits that their thirty years of stalling and denying have allowed to flow in the past.

The consequences of climate change are NOT hitting us harder and earlier than we thought.
They are hitting us harder and earlier than industry lobbyists, right-wing politicians and media organisations, and others wanted us to believe.
The science has been there for more than a generation. But who's going to pay for the cost of business and elite-driven delay?

Everyone, *everyone*, arguing that working to mitigate the effects of climate change is too expensive for our economies is ACTUALLY objecting to the possibility that their primary source of personal income would have to change. The economy itself can't afford not to.
