Abled people HAVE to fight their ableism now. "Ban Cars" would be a more doable thing if we actually had an anti-ableist society that allowed independent accessible access to public transit and private transit when needed. @greenyouthmovement Furthermore, mining is hugely energy intensive and it is unlikely that we will be able to do mining on anything like our current scale into the future (even if we wanted to). We need to be moving more towards a #CircularEconomy where almost all metal and glass are #recycled.
Of course, by far the best thing would be for everyone to stop using #FossilFuels NOW, but sadly that doesn't look likely.

As I've argued elsewhere, we're likely to be very short of metals and cement over the next few centuries, since we will not have enough 'green' smelters and kilns.
Consequently, as well as planting forests to sequester carbon, we are also going to need much more timber as structural material. So we need to be planting #resilient forests, using genetic stock adapted to a variety of climates.

However, while temperatures in #Scotland are likely to continue to climb until the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (#AMOC) collapses, it is likely to drop sharply after that.
When will the collapse happen? No one seems to know. Early next century seems to be the best guess. So while trees maturing within 100 years need to be heat and drought tolerant, those maturing later need to be cold tolerant.

I was able to attend the International Skills of the Youth in the Presidents meeting hall of Nakasero in Kampala last year and a lot was learnt that day.
