As the planet heats up, tundras are thawing, wetlands are fermenting, and forests are succumbing to larger and more frequent wildfires. The breakdown of these natural systems is unleashing huge volumes of emissions, further intensifying warming from the burning of fossil fuels. According to new research, such feedback loops could amplify human-driven warming by 20 to 30 percent. Read more on E360 →

A new study warning that unaccounted climate feedback loops—like thawing permafrost and wildfires—could amplify global heating by up to 30% is terrifying. Ignoring these hidden multipliers in current policy overestimates our remaining carbon budget.
Why are we delaying action? 🤔 #ClimateCrisis #ClimateChange https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2026/sep/10/climate-feedback-loops-global-warming-study -

This is the wrong story. AI is *already* killing humanity, by stealing water, by increasing greenhouse gas emissions and by adding PFAS and other forever chemicals to the environment. Not to mention absorbing trillions of dollars that should be being spent on addressing the #climateCrisis.

"Environmental laws exist for a reason – to protect our health and safety, the clean air and water we rely on, and the nature that makes Canada unique. Dismantling decades worth of legal protections to speed up development and putting these important values at risk is not a path to true prosperity."

Stretching from West Africa to the Gulf of Mexico, a massive bloom of sargassum seaweed is swamping beaches and killing coastal wildlife. But scientists have discovered the floating algae also shelters a vast array of ocean creatures, and some are now calling for its protection. Read more on E360 →

UN: “We’ve seen mass evacuations. Power stations closed. And trade routes choked. Crops lost. Yields down. And food prices up – and set to rise further.”
”To be soft on climate action is to be soft on inflation, and the cost of living, soft on sovereignty and security, and soft on economic growth and jobs. The fossil fuel crisis is also pushing up the costs of government borrowing, meaning less fiscal space to deliver vital services that populations need and expect.”

Unaccounted climate feedback loops may amplify warming by 20–30% this century, but cutting emissions will reduce risks
Even once #emissions from human activities reach net-zero, #GreenhouseGas feedbacks could still add an estimated 0.2°C (1 standard deviation: ±0.2°C) of warming by 2100 under a stronger climate action scenario (SSP1-2.6). Under a scenario with higher emissions (SSP4-6.0), they could add an estimated 0.4°C (1 standard deviation: ±0.2°C) by 2100.
Critically, these warming-induced emissions remain largely absent from most Earth system models used to estimate the response of temperature to anthropogenic emissions. This means that current climate projections likely underestimate future warming.

"Carney has once again taken a wrecking ball to Canada’s environmental safeguards and climate progress. Many of his moves since coming to power have been done quietly, to avoid the public backlash that these environmental rollbacks rightfully deserve. Such is the case with the amendments tabled this morning in stealth."
"There was no forewarning of this decision. No press release. No press conference."

Mark Carney's "latest attack on Canada’s hard-fought environmental rules came in the form of a quiet posting in the Canada Gazette which announced that some of the country’s most polluting projects will no longer be reviewed under the country’s Impact Assessment Act. This includes the country’s largest carbon bombs: oil and gas pipelines (including in national parks), in situ oil sands extraction and fossil gas plants."
"If the Prime Minister proceeds, nature will suffer, species could be driven to extinction and climate disasters will continue to become more severe, deadly and expensive — all while project decision-making becomes less transparent, less evidence-based and more politicized."
