It was a long day yesterday, much of it spent in a car driving to and from Amherst. I sleep soundly, wake with the alarm, and drink my coffee in quiet before heading out to vigil, arriving at Roosevelt Circle at 7:31 and setting up my sign and speaker. Today's hand-held message is the simple and undeniable WEIRD IS THE NEW NORMAL. Craige's not here today, alas.

these two major fires happened nine days apart. Either one could have come into town with the right conditions. We are having a community meeting on Wednesday to go over what happened last year. It's going to be interesting and probably pretty emotional. Rightly so.
I honestly think a big reason why most of the Liberal Party just doesn't get it is because they are centered in urban and sub urban Ontario and don't have to worry about their homes burning down every year.
And allow me to just stop you right there before you say this is normal for our neck of the woods.
Fires? sure. Fires that threaten towns on Vancouver Island. No. Never. Not in my lifetime. Nor anyone elses.

When my house burns down in a climate change- accelerated fire, will I be allowed to vote for someone other than the Liberals without the "but you'll just elect a Conservative" or "but the economy" bullshit?

P.S. And this is not a rhetorical question, we have had 3 major fires within 20km of our home in the past 3 years. We have been protected by geography, BCWildfire, and luck.

It's cool and clear out here this Friday morning as I make my way to Roosevelt Circle, arriving at 7:31 and setting up. I lean on the guardrail and hold up WE MUST BE BETTER ANCESTORS, waving to Craige as he walks over a few minutes later. He's been having some health problems and I'm kind of worried.

I wake a little after six and spend the next forty shifting back and forth between awareness and sleep, eventually rising with the alarm, drinking a cup of coffee, and heading out to a solo vigil (no Craige today), arriving at 7:30. It's (almost but not quite) warm, with temps in the mid-50s F. Today I hold up EVERY DISASTER MOVIE STARTS WITH A SCIENTIST BEING IGNORED.
