  2. "Living doll" - Cliff Richard and The Young Ones

Ooh, different opening rap from Rik, the one where he mentions Keith Chegwin. That's the second time he's cropped up in tonight's thread.

Silly, funny, entertaining, and great. Comic Relief singles may have peaked already.

  3. "Carrie" - Cliff Richard

Peter says, "We don't talk any more about Cliff not having hits."

    Very droll, Peter, very good.

  4. To me, Cliff Richard and Freddie Mercury always seemed an unlikely pair of friends.

The thing I didn't know was that Richard was born in India and because of his accent and complexion he, strangely, faced anti-Indian racism when his family moved back to Britain.

Freddie Mercury's family was from India and he was educated there in a British type boarding school. When he fled to Britain with his family from Zanzibar he also had to deal with racism.

So Cliff and Freddie actually had a weirdly shared/similar background.

I think they only performed together once, singing It's In Everyone of Us as part of a charity performance of the musical Time back in 1988.

  6. This date in 1963: Premiere of Cliff Richard's Summer Holiday. Cliff didn't make it to the event because he was stuck in his car as fans tried to get to him, so he ended up at his manager's flat watching the boxing on TV.

  7. "Saviour's day" - Cliff Richard

About fifteen people cram onto the stage, Cliff wears a silver foil jacket.

A rather strange mixture of new age pan pipes and solid Rokspel. The instrumental sounds like something Enya might write if she wanted a marching tune, and the lyric is a little puzzle for people to decode and feel clever when they do.

  10. "Mistletoe and wine" - HRH Sir Prince Cliff Richard

Repeat of the performance from three weeks ago, which is a bit of a swizz.

One for the grannies, also one for the pop kids - Cliff has made some very approachable pop records in the last few years, and he's riding a genuine swell of public support.

Song's written by Keith Strachan, who later did the music for "Who Wants to be a Millionaire". It's the year's top-selling single, and Keith gets the songwriting royalties.
