  3. MONDAY MATINEE MUSIC VIDEO! “The Longest Time” youtube.com/watch?v=CCl7HGtaJ1E Sometimes love presents holy moments. Even when one has to go separate ways, one can feel angels present. This micro-musical by Chris Andrews is pop balladry at its best. On a cosmic jukebox this song would play next to Michael Bolton, Cliff Richard, Leo Sayer, and Robbie Williams. youtube.com/watch?v=CCl7HGtaJ1E

  4. "Silhouettes" is a song made famous by the American #doowop group #theRays in 1957, peaking at number three on the US Billboard Hot 100. A competing version by #theDiamonds was also successful. In 1965 it was a number 5 hit in the US for #HermansHermits, and in 1990 it was a number 10 hit in the UK for #CliffRichard.

  5. "Keep stirring the pudding" at 1.38 on Christmas afternoon?! No! No! No! He's a worse cook than Fanny Cradock!

"The millennium prayer" - Cliff Richard

Promoted to the religious community, a group who were unfamiliar with the CD single and might have preferred Cliff's seven-incher.

George Michael was unimpressed. He told Capital FM "Just knowing there has been a Christian campaign for it - I think it is so exploitative of people's religion, it really is. I think there are people out there who feel it is their duty to buy this record on the eve of the millennium. That is a really horrible reason for a number one record."

  6. #JukeboxFridayNight has theme #MusicMusiciansAndMashups, songs about making music from existing tunes and lyrics.

What better mashup is there than "One Song to the Tune of Another".

Here's what happened for Christmas 1999. They've had a letter from a certifiable lunatic, who suggests singing "The Lord's Prayer" to the tune of "Auld lang syne". What a foolish idea.

Here's "Bachelor boy" sung to the tune of "Auld lang syne". And the converse.

  7. #TBT #CurrentlyWatching They're pretty much unknown here in USA, but the Shadows were a huge influence on multiple generations of British rock'n'roll from the Beatles to Black Sabbath and beyond. They seem like hella nice people too. 8. "Mistletoe and Wine" - Twiggy

Written for ITV's "The Little Match Girl" from 1986.

Lyricist Leslie Stewart came up with the lyric, Keith Strachan set it to a tune.

The song became a lively knees-up music hall number, sung by well-to-do revellers utterly indifferent to the suffering around them. It's surprisingly socialist, this.

Cliff re-wrote it to fit his parochial agenda, and had the big hit of '88.
