  3. Question regarding California’s click-to-cancel law (Automatic renewal law),

    * Costco wouldn’t let us check the price of appliances without a membership id.
    * I purchased the membership online though their app and found the deals were shit.
    * Couldn’t find a way to cancel through the app, chat asked me to call a number, they gave me yet another number of the local store and the store is asking me to come in-person to cancel.

Is this bs legal? Can they force me to come in to cancel and not offer any online means to cancel the membership? Is there a place where I can put in a complain for this practice?

  8. I bet this new administration gets in the way of the #ClickToCancel guidance from the FTC. Heck, there's a decent chance there won't be an FTC by 2028. Too bad, they are one of the better branches for consumer protection.

  12. I can't wait to see what the CEO of Adobe has to say at the next board meeting after the FTC's "click to cancel" rule comes in!

"We regret to inform you that we've missed profit and revenue targets by over 30%"
    "How did that happen?"
"Well, the government legislated that we can't charge people for what they don't want and suddenly we lost loads of customers and money"

  13. CW: Long thread/21

Translation: the FTC couldn't punish companies like Amazon for using algorithms to hike prices, or for conspiring to raise insulin prices, or predatory pricing aimed at killing small- and medium-sized grocers.

An amendment from Rep #KatCammack (R-FL) would kill the FTC's #ClickToCancel rule, which will force companies to let you cancel your subscriptions the same way you sign up for them - instead of making you wait on hold to beg a customer service rep to let you cancel.
