One of the worst bungling of marketing is #KevinSmith's #Mallrats. The people in charge didn't understand the movie and decided that the best way to sell it was by making Shannen Doherty the selling point. Almost a "if you liked 90210, you'll love this film".
I completely ignored the film in theatres and videostores. Just adding the line "from the director of #Clerks" would've made me take a second look.
Shannen Doherty was great in the film but she didn't represent what the film was.
