"Isaac Brock has long been vehemently opposed to #urbanization and the #DestructionOfNature, and these have remained central lyrical themes going back to the band's earliest material (per Paste Magazine). As Healthline notes, such feelings of frustration towards environmentally destructive practices, anger at the seeming inevitability of #ClimateChange, and fear for the Earth's future are called eco-anxiety –- and Brock has been suffering from it for years.

"In Pitchfork's 2012 '#LonesomeCrowdedWest' documentary, he described living in Washington State in the '90s as having a 'front-row seat to watching #forests disappearing and #UrbanSprawl begin,' lamenting the constant clearing of natural places to make way for #StripMalls. In fact, he was still thinking about it in 2021 when he told Uproxx that his childhood home regularly flooded due to forest #clearcutting.

"Many Modest Mouse songs center on shameless human destruction, with the 2015 hit '#LampshadesOnFire' -– in which Brock sings about mankind going to space to find a new planet after destroying Earth -– serving as a notable example. But in recent years, he's making an effort to focus on the positive, as evidenced by hopeful songs like 'The Sun Hasn't Left,' in which he sings, 'You're not wrong, things are a mess but there's still something left.' 'I found optimism where it actually existed because I needed it,' he told NME in 2021, adding, 'Y'know, I got three kids ... I don't think s***'s gonna get easier for everyone.' "

Received wisdom in #Silviculture is that #Clearfell or #Clearcut coupes mimic nature in #fireclimax habitats. While I agree clearcut / restock can be brutal & we are heavily over-reliant on the system, it seems 'bold' to outlaw it entirely, regardless of scale. Surely local production and 'better' rather than 'less' silviculture would provide #timber for less #carbon intensive #building solutions

"The increasing severity of #wildfires and #drought highlights that reforming #ForestStewardship – taking better care of the forests, including safeguarding #OldGrowthForests – is one of our best hopes to protect communities across B.C.

Harmful #forestry practices like #clearcutting and #unsustainable #IndustrialLogging make extreme heat and wildfires worse. #Clearcuts are #tinderboxes, more prone to creating embers because dead trees and branches dry out in the hot sun and become more #flammable. Tree plantations and improperly tended young forests also increase wildfire risk: Younger trees have thinner bark and low-hanging branches that can act as ladder fuels, and the trees are often planted too close together, making it easy for fire to spread.

Fortunately, intact and properly managed #forests are more resilient to the worsening wildfires and heatwaves. For example, #OldGrowth #rainforests have dense canopies which provide cooling shade that resists fire. They are cooler and wetter than young forests, acting as giant sponges. Old-growth trees in the drier interior have thick bark, high branches and are widely spaced which all reduce #WildfireRisk.

More #clearcutting and roads by the @forestservice on very steep slopes (>60%) . This was done under its Hogback Project. Not helpful with increased #flooding around here and is contrary to the 2006 @monongahela @forest Plan. @forestservice, if I'm wrong here, please chime in. By-the-way, Hile and Bonifield Run are native brook #trout #streams on the verge of being too warm for #BrookTrout

Went to D.C. and got good response from Senators to community request that F.S. stop #clearcutting the steepest slopes. Below is a local F.S. clearcut on >50% slope, which is contrary to the #Monongahela #Forest Plan. Can't see how this helps with #flooding #WorthMoreStanding

This especially #climate destroying method of #clearcutting our #ClimateForests is proposed by the F.S. for the mature and #OldGrowth #forest in the #UpperCheatRiver project.
