In this era of creeping dictatorships and censorship, rad media makers need to also publish on decentralized networks—stuff that’s redundant, resilient, and untouchable by governments or algorithms. #RSS still rules, and I always try to sub to indy pods with their own feeds. It Could Happen Here is great, but it’s hosted on iHeart (yeah, Clearchannel). Would suck if shows vanished overnight because corporate podcast networks bent the knee to Trump or whoever’s next.

Successful #adblock has weird impacts on streaming.

Listening to radio (#clearchannel unfortunately because, you know, they basically own radio around here) and there are some strange side-effects.

I seem to be getting the lowest-value ads, lots of "iheart podcast" ads and things, or 90s-local-cable-commercial production levels. They have me geolocated *very* poorly, even without vpn 😹 so I now know of some local joints about 350 miles away.

The best part is, after it plays 15s or so, it skips to a new ad. Sometimes more than once before ending on a #clearchannel ad or mandatory PSA.

The cherry on top? They usually close by trying to sell me advertising time... Maybe play a complete ad for me first? Why would I pay for an advertisement that ends in the middle? "The savings at Target are Here at Jiffy Lube, you always Have you considered audio advertising? Listen to these customers talk about how well faking #grassroots works for us."

Finally:

A huge ❤️ to @hhwerbefrei who work to restore my town from the merciless onslaught of ads (yes, I'm "advertising" a lot for them ... I hope the difference is obvious even though both activities share the same name).

These "green bus stops" have been popping up here, in an apparent bid to sway public opinion regarding this ad nonsense.

But the tide has turned against "#clearchannel", "#jcdecaux" and their greedy ilk.

Good riddance when we kick their ads/asses out of our cities.
