Four Asian nations includ. #Vietnam and #Indonesia have agreed to work together to implement a $43-billion (USD) programme intended to manage and reduce the use of #toxicchemicals in clothing manufac. With only a 13% #recycling rate, and 6% of #plastics waste recycl. in 2021, #Singapore is on the cusp of implementing a metal and plastic drink container recycl. scheme that would refund #consumers in amts. avg. about $0.105 (USD) per can or bottle. Cont'd reliance on food grade plastics and metals lends itself to bolster recycl. However, from a policy persp. emphasis should perhaps be placed on the idea of #biodegradables #cleanerproduction and #greenchemistry instead.

The new #EPR amendment to #Philippines existing #solidwaste mgmnt. law is a requisite step in bringing greater visibility to the idea of #polluterpaysprinciple. However, the amendment's scope of coverage incl. only #plastics-based products, and allowance for independent 3rd party audit verification raise questions about its efficacy. Also, EPR w/out recognising the necessity of #cleanerproduction misses the point of manifest #sustainability. #SDGs
