Titus Salt built Saltaire in the 1850s to escape Bradford's foul air. 150 years later, a trunk road runs through same valley that now traps traffic's exhaust. Debate argues about charge; valley barely gets a mention.

#Manchester's filthy air.
A long way to go.

"All in all, the measures will get Greater Manchester’s air to 40.3 micrograms of nitrogen dioxide in one cubic metre of air.
"The UK legal limit is officially 40, but results under 40.4 are rounded down, making TfGM’s plan compliant.

"After one year of the zone, nitrogen dioxide from traffic was lower, GP visits for respiratory illnesses were down by 25% and those for heart problems decreased by 24%. This added up to an average of 732 fewer visits a month, compared with pre-Covid levels, and the trend showed that benefits were increasing over time."
