  1. Barn gardening section done. A double shelf and a rail on the other side for hanging tools. Then moving everything back in.

Then I grabbed that strimmer there, which runs well with the replaced fuel line and cleared a lot of weeds until some supersized nettles defeated it.

Nettles have these strong fibres inside them that you can weave into fabric. Or wrap around a strimmer head until it can no longer turn.

Then put the mower into jetski mowde and cleared the path down to the valley, which was also thickly overgrown. Surprisingly, I did not get stuck and made it back up. Always a worry on that very steep path.

Now to recuperate from the hayfever attack all this triggered 😬

  5. Finally some dry-ish weather after all the stupid rain, so some stuff got done.

Mowed the jungle, which yielded many bags of grass for the compost. Stuff grows like crazy when it rains a lot.

Finished clearing out the old "floor" from that barn section with the hay. A mix of rotten wood, straw, dirt, some bricks, some glass shards, couple chunks of lime mortar, not much metal. Picked out the bits and composted the rest.

Then slapped together a shelf for the gardening stuff. Made from reclaimed wood I keep stashed on the other end of the same barn.

Just gotta make some tool hangers for the gardening tools on the outer wall and put them there now.

#Knirps helped drive the tractor back into the barn, then refused to let go of the steering wheel 😆

  11. Finished moving the hay. The rearmost stuff was small square bales, really old ones. That can stay there for now, the back of the barn is full and the bales are easy to handle when the time comes.

To move it, I pitchforked the rest to the front of the occupied section, grabbed it with the excavator, pushed the pile along the barn floor to the back, then pitched it up into the new section and finally climbed up there to pitch it on the giant pile.

No wonder everyone switched to bales, loose hay is extremely labour intensive and very space consuming. Hence the huge barns!

Now just raking up the floor, clearing out random planks, rocks and bricks.

At least everything is biodegradable or re-usable.

  16. In and under the ancient hay I'm slowly hauling into the far corner of the barn, there's treasures.

A few glass window blocks. Remember those things? In my childhood they were everywhere. Now I think they're very out of fashion. Perhaps they will return.

And a hand carved potato. Yeah. I have no idea. Perhaps its like the fake egg to show the chickens where to lay. Show the other potatoes where to grow?

  21. Ohh, I do know what this is. A tractor glowplug for preheating engines in winter by blasting them with fire 😁

I only know because Steve couldn't get his to work right.

Not sure what fuel this one is designed for. Oh wait, the tray is for pre-heating, so it must be kerosene or something less flammable than petrol, maybe diesel.

  22. And what the heck are these?

Looks like someone cut off piston heads and clamped them down. Perhaps for installing piston rings, but how do these help get them on the real thing?

One is from wood, the other welded and extremely heavy.

  23. Cable recycling. Sorted into aluminium cable scrap, copper cable scrap and a few to keep.

Also a short length of something super rare: lead shielded cable. I remember finding that wrapped around an apple tree 😆

As soon I was done I found another pile of cables somewhere else 🤦‍♂️

  24. Thumbing around behind the barn, picking up "treasures". The thumb I made has already proven itself immensely useful and got a coat of black paint on top of the primer.

Bunch of big rocks there, some concrete, some weird garden railway track and a lens of bitumen, I think.

Not sure what to do with the latter. Make a road? 🤷
