  1. It’s Such a Blessing: The Farmers Embracing Solar Arrays

Dowell / Getty Images The solar farm where Jess Gray’s sheep were giving birth was only four miles away but after a February ice storm this year, it took her more than an hour to get there in her pickup truck. Fallen trees and power lines littered the roads. Ice coated the ground and encrusted the wires of the chain link fence enclosing her flock. Gray was anxious to see if any had survived. “I got to the farm and my sheep were lambing in the middle of it,” she recalled. “Lambs […]

  2. 🔆 Bifacial solar panels generate power from BOTH sides — not just the front.

Rear side captures reflected light off ground, snow, or white rooftops.

Real gains: 5–15% more output vs standard panels, depending on mounting height & ground reflectivity.

Quietly becoming the new default spec for utility-scale solar. 🌞

  3. 🛩️ Lydian just raised $43M to make jet fuel out of thin air.

The Boston startup converts captured CO2 and hydrogen into drop-in sustainable aviation fuel using their PIVOT platform. It claims 95% lower lifecycle emissions than conventional jet fuel.

The Series A was led by Breakthrough Energy Ventures through a fund backed by 15 airlines. The round also includes AP Ventures, Builders Vision, Congruent Ventures, Galvanize, Grok Ventures, Overture, Union Square Ventures, and Voyager Ventures.

A pilot plant is already running in Boston (30 tonnes/year). Demo plant targeted for 2028, commercial scale by 2030.

The timing matters: the Iran war and Strait of Hormuz closure exposed how dependent jet fuel supply is on a single chokepoint. The EU imports 90%+ of its jet fuel crude.

  7. New Bladeless Wind Turbine Generates Clean, Quiet, Bird Safe Power

Vortex Bladeless Across the world, wind power is growing fast but not fast enough. To meet climate goals and reach carbon neutrality, the United Nations says global wind energy must triple in the next ten years. Standard turbines, with their giant spinning blades, are helping, but they face challenges: high costs, loud operation, complex maintenance, and their unfortunate impact on birds……Continue reading…. 8. 'the rise of private-sector investments also underscored the global competitiveness of China’s cleantech industry and the growing maturity of its technologies. The BRI has been criticised over a raft of issues including the creation of unsustainable debt obligations, especially in Africa and other parts of the developing world, as well as concerns over opaque credit and loan terms...Despite such criticisms, the first-half data showed that African countries retained a keen interest in the BRI, with Chinese investments in the region nearly tripling year-on-year'

  9. Ford and Geely have announced a partnership to jointly develop and manufacture electric SUVs at Ford's Valencia plant in Spain. The collaboration combines Ford's manufacturing footprint with Geely's EV expertise to strengthen their position in the European electric vehicle market.

  10. India has introduced its first hydrogen-powered train, marking a significant milestone in the country's transition toward cleaner transportation. Powered by hydrogen fuel cells instead of conventional diesel, the train emits only water vapour, supporting India's broader push for sustainable mobility and green infrastructure.

  11. We're moving our development to @Codeberg

As a company, we value supporting community-driven, nonprofit, and open-source infrastructure whenever practical. Choosing tools that align with our principles is part of how we build—not just what we build.

We're looking forward to continuing our work on Codeberg.

  12. Very sound—we’re a whole lot further along the clean-energy path than the media and self-interested fossils are telling us.

  13. Diving deeper into the economic diversification (or lack thereof) I was fascinated by the graphic depicting the value of China's 2024 exports to the rest of the world, and since I'm really into electrification I wondered why solar panels didn't show up as their own category.

Turns out that they're lumped into semiconductors ($53 B) in the dataset. These are 2024 volumes and the classification includes all photosensitive, photovoltaic, and photoemissive devices for a grand total of $37 B. Fortunately, Ember has a good breakdown of PV and battery exports and their total for panels only comes to $28 B for that year:

So for as big a deal as China's #cleanTech manufacturing is to the rest of the world right now, it's a relatively minor part of the country's gross output. Panels only accounted for about 1/20 of the trade in phones, 1/6 of cars, and just over 2/3 of "other toys."
