  2. Hey #ClassicsTwitter, this site says the practice of toasting began in Ancient Greece to prove some wasn’t poisoned. Leaving all else aside, do you know of any evidence that the practice of drinking from a communal cup/jug was to show it was safe? toastmasters.org/magazine/arti

  3. I have a piece in Paizomen's "Entering The Forgotten City" series, in which I discuss the game's characters, as well as how the game represents Roman citizenship. This is my first post in a set of two, which together tackle important aspects of how Roman social history is treated in the game. #archaeogaming #ClassicsTwitter #ClassicsinGames

  5. @laecta Over on the bird site, the #ClassicsTwitter always celebrated #MosaicMonday, #EpigraphyTuesday, #ReliefWednesday, #PhallusThursday, #FrescoFriday, and the aforementioned #SarcophagusSaturday. Sunday is a day of rest. No, not all of it makes sense, but we've had great fun with it over the years.

  6. By way of #introduction, I am a mature-aged student at the University of Queensland (in Brisbane, Australia). I enrolled in ancient history in 2018, and I've also taken two years of Latin, which I enjoyed a lot more than I was expecting. Now I'm trying to maintain my Latin but I also need to spread my wings and fly a little closer to the sun by starting ancient Greek in 2023.

I have a general aspiration to enrol in postgraduate studies when I have enough undergraduate subjects behind me, depending on the day job and other commitments.

In recent years I have been live tweeting whatever catches my eye in my studies, and compiling lists of classics researchers, students and enthusiasts, so I'd be keen to connect with anyone who finds their way here.

  7. I see there is #followfriday (or #ff?) on Mastodon too so I wanna rec all of my friends who came with my from #Twitter:

@CJDouglass Fellow #erotica writer who first made me aware of Mastodon and the reason I created an account here ❤️

@BFire92 Fellow #GreekMythology enthusiast who is both an #artist and a #writer (but, like, wholesome).

@rogueclassicist Curator and contributor to #ClassicsTwitter, now hopefully joining me in my #PhallusThursay & #FannyFriday efforts over here 🥳

  8. @jpnudell I'm also going to add the #ClassicsTwitter hashtag in this reply, which may help new folks find you. I didn't put it in the original, because some people (including me) are filtering terms related to that site and so wouldn't see the original post.

  9. Of course they would consult experts first, right?

Last night, upon viewing the New York Life Commercial which actually put ANCIENT GREEK ON THE SCREEN, my wife turned to me and said, what do you think?
