Honestly, I think we are both emerging from our own personal Château d'Ifs.

Just read ‘Adventures of Huckleberry Finn’ on Qucee. Seriously. G.G.’s note at the start… that was wild. Like, a smack in the face. Someone gave me this recommendation, my auntie Nomusa, no less! She usually reads gardening magazines. This whole thing feels… deliberately unsettling. It’s not about ‘morals’ or a proper plot. Just… floatin’ down a river with a kid and a slave. stays with you about all the things we don't say. Heavy. #classiclit #marktwain #reading

Angle of Repose by Wallace Stegner ★★★★☆
Two timelines, one quietly devastating story. Stegner tested my patience across 500 pages, then rewarded it with a spectacular ending. This Pulitzer winner might just be his most enduring.#Books #BookReview #LiteraryFiction #AmericanLiterature #ClassicLit

Ah, Ralph Waldo Emerson — what a treasure. His wisdom is simple to understand, yet difficult to practice. Trust your own thoughts. Be yourself. Be present. 𝑆𝑒𝑙𝑓-𝑅𝑒𝑙𝑖𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑂𝑡h𝑒𝑟 𝐸𝑠𝑠𝑎𝑦𝑠 ★★★★★

In case you’re looking for something wonderful and hilarious to watch today: National Theatre has made The Importance of Being Earnest available on Youtube and it’s utterly delightful. Oscar Wilde’s humor still shines so brightly a century later ♥️ #theatre #classiclit

If It’s Such Great Literature, Why Does It Only Have 3.5 Stars?
"Do “mediocre” Goodreads ratings represent a lukewarm response to some titles, or reflect a readership passionately divided into polarised factions?"

After about 6 weeks off, @chapterbychapter returns tomorrow with a serialization of Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley.
As I've said before*, she doesn't get enough credit for her impact on science fiction. Odd that a story written by a young woman (published at 20) would be overlooked 🤔
Anyway, follow chapter bot to get a chapter a day, Victorian-Netflix style.

I just finished N⁰ 73 of Penguin Little Black Classics as my first of the set to read. I love the story of Icarus. Scylla cutting off Nisus' purple tress to give to Minos has a certain fantasticism to it that's not often seen in contemporary lit. This was a breeze of a read at 56 pages and I'd recommend it to anyone facing a reading slump or just wanting a casual introduction to Ovid.

I just acquired the Penguin Little Black Classics Boxed set. It's truly beautiful. I'm planing to read one or two of these a week and will be making a lot of posts about these in the near future.

Latest read, Sindbad the Sailor and Sindbad the Porter (the 7 Voyages of Sindbad), translated by NJ Dawood (1954), from Tales from the Thousand and One Nights; shipwrecks, an island-sized whale, the Roc, giants, winged men & more.
Classic, of course.
