"West End Blues" is a multi-strain #twelvebarBlues composition by #JoeKingOliver. It is most commonly performed as an #instrumental, although it has #lyrics added by #ClarenceWilliams. King Oliver and his Dixie Syncopators made the first recording for #BrunswickRecords on June 11, 1928. Clarence Williams later added lyrics to the instrumental tune. He recorded the song several times in 1928, first with vocalist #EthelWaters, then with Irene Mims.

Clarence Williams Blue Five - Sidney Bechet's name wasn't on the original 78 issue, but he dominates the recording on soprano sax. He was immediately recognized by fellow musicians back in his home town of New Orleans, where the record sold well.
