As a child, I found a book about Clara Schumann that sparked my love for music.
Last week, for my project The Fipple Flutist, I chose to record one of Clara’s songs: "Ich stand in dunkeln Träumen", with the gifted Anne Veinberg on piano, in an arrangement by Sarah Jeffery (originally for recorder).

She was a child prodigy who performed in the major European cities into adulthood garnering praise wherever she went. Unlike many female composers and performers of the era, she was celebrated in her time but was largely ignored from the Weimar Republic years until the late 1960s.

Visited the recently re-opened (refurbished, redesigned etc) #Schumann house, the only surviving building where Robert and #ClaraSchumann lived together. They've gone for a clinically clean modern design with white drawers to pull to reveal some of the old documents, Whereas I prefer the more naturalistic recreations of 19th c. spaces like #LeightonHouse Most shocking though: there are only 3 #MusicalInstruments in the whole flat. Honestly. They raised 6 kids there, they must have had more?
