tried 4 different ideas for tape noise today:
1. bandlimited random impulse train
2. something to try and emulate the barkhausen effect with a quasi-granular thing
3. hashing the playback position of the tape (inspired by @ho use of the Hasher.ar ugen in supercollider)
4. filtered white noisesome were very cool (and I'll be returning to them) but none were sounding quite right
I ended up using something based on a chaotic filter I learned from a Risto Holopainen paper: https://ristoid.net/research/NL-filters.pdf
I made a whole synth using that filter ages ago. It has a really interesting sound to it and (despite having no physical relation ship to tape or any other thing in the system) sounded the best in my very subjective opinion
