  1. I watched “Lucy Gallant” (1955) for Claire Trevor only to discover that, while they’ve created an interesting character for her, they’ve given her almost nothing to do with it and little screen time to do it in.

Otherwise the film is a modestly interesting mish-mash of oil men and high fashion.

  2. Edward G. Robinson and Claire Trevor work on their radio show, “Big Town” in 1938. Robinson played a corruption-fighting newspaper editor and Trevor his reporter.

  3. Several of the nominees for 1957 Emmy awards: Ida Lupino, Vivian Vance, Ernie Ford, Nanette Fabray and Claire Trevor.

Lupino was nominated for “best continuing performance by an actress” for Four Star Playhouse.

Trevor was nominated for “best single performance by an actress” for Dodsworth on Producers Showcase.

  4. “One Mile From Heaven” (20th Century-Fox, 1937) — Claire Trevor is the nominal star, but her character is too slimy to sympathize with. The real protagonists are Fredi Washington and Bill Robinson. A very unusual feature in its handling of race relations.

  5. Director William Wyler works with Humphrey Bogart, Claire Trevor and Alan Jenkins on the set of “Dead End” (1937)

Huston did not inform Claire Trevor about when she was to perform her song until it was shot. She was not a trained singer, had not rehearsed and was intimidated to perform for A-list actors in front of her. The result was a hesitant, nervous, uncomfortable rendition.

  11. #AnthonyMann #JohnAlton #filmnoir Film noir doesn't get much better than Anthony Mann’s Raw Deal (1948). A jailbreak goes wrong. Complex characters, noir fatalism and a real atmosphere of impending doom. Superb cinematography by John Alton.

  14. Johnny Angel (1945), a lesser known nautical noir with a fine performance by the great George Raft. Written by Steve Fisher.

Johnny Angel (George Raft) is a sea captain like his father. When he finds his father’s ship drifting at sea in the Gulf of Mexico, with its cargo intact but the crew (including his father) nowhere to be found, he is determined to find out what has happened.

  15. Claire Trevor and Edward G. Robinson in “The Amazing Dr. Clitterhouse” (1938). These two also worked together for several years in the late 1930s on the radio drama “Big Town”, and they teamed up memorably in “Key Largo” (1948) a decade later.
