  2. CW: TV show

"Can it really have been 30 years since Angela Chase developed a life-consuming crush on Jordan Catalano just because of the way he leaned? My So-Called Life, created by Winnie Holzman, made its TV debut on 25 August 1994".

  3. Winnie Holzman is the co-creator of "Wicked." She's also behind another great portrait of female adolescence: "My So-Called Life," which ran for just 19 episodes in 1994/1995. Here's an interview with Holzman for the BBC's "Culture Shifters" series, where she discusses casting Claire Danes, how her age (she was just 14) allowed the rest of the ensemble to shine, and her feelings about the cancelation. "The knowledge that you put something out there that helped people feel less alone, and maybe a little uplifted, or seen is more important than how many episodes we got to make," she says, adding that producer Marshall Herskovitz calls it the James Dean of TV series. "I thought there was something true about that. It died young, but it made a big impact."

  4. Of all the 1990s teen shows in all the world, one reigns supreme: "My So-Called Life." It ran for a single season in 1994-95, gave Claire Danes her first Golden Globe, and introduced thousands of girls — and their parents' bath towels — to cherry-red hair dye. Show creator Ed Zwick has just written a memoir, "Hits, Flops and Other Illusions: My Fortysomething Years in Hollywood." Here's an extract, reproduced in MovieMaker magazine, about the development, casting, and cancelation of the iconic '90s show.
