  1. My article examining the personhood status of human embryos from the perspectives of their development in the womb or in a laboratory environment and their preservation through cryopreservation has just been published.

Titled “Alabama Yüksek Mahkemesi’nin LePage & Fonde / Aysenne v. Medical Center Kararı Perspektifinden In Utero ve In Vitro Embriyonun Türk Hukukundaki Kişiliği Meselesi” (The Issue of In Utero and In Vitro Embryo Personhood in Turkish Law from the Perspective of the Alabama Supreme Court’s LePage & Fonde / Aysenne v. Medical Center Decision), the article has been published in the festschrift “Prof. Dr. Ahmet M. Kılıçoğlu Armağanı,” dedicated to our esteemed professor.

The festschrift ceremony, held on March 27, 2026, at Atılım University Faculty of Law in Ankara, was an extremely meaningful and emotional gathering.

I extend my sincere thanks to all the professors and everyone who contributed to making this gathering possible…

  2. My book, “Yapay Zekânın Hukuki Kişiliği Sorunu” (The Issue of AI’s Legal Personhood), has been published by Seçkin Publishing!

In this book, I address whether AI should be granted legal personhood, and if so, what kind of personhood status would be appropriate.

I present the technical reality of AI, free from the misleading definitions of popular culture, and examine the debates surrounding its legal personhood. I also present a concrete roadmap for my proposed “technological person” status for AI and similar technologies, which are sui generis entities.

The book is aimed at researchers, judges, prosecutors, and lawyers, as well as law students, policymakers, those working in law and technology, and anyone interested in law.

For now, the book is available in Turkish.

You can access the book here: seckin.com.tr/kitap/713649854

I’d love to hear your thoughts!

  3. In practical effect, this would be a device to transform ICE’s #obstruction into not just a violation of #state #law, but also of a #federal-court order.

#Criminal #liability by its nature comes too late to stop harms from happening. #States such as #Minnesota should also look to #CivilLaw as a basis for stopping baleful & unlawful #ICE tactics. This also requires some creative thinking—taking a legal tool designed for other purposes & fitting it to our new reality.

  9. My understanding of Civil Law is very limited, but if the current US president wants to sue the BBC in the British courts then in my under he'd have to demonstrate that he'd suffered some sort of reputational damage.

He might get awarded a token £1

I haven't got the foggiest about US law.

  10. Ignorance of the #law is no excuse, they say, but in modern times #laws within common law and even civil law is large and unwieldy.

It's overtly complex, and I'm not even taking into account court proceedings and protocols - because I'm not a goddamn lawyer.

Therefore I'd need the help of #CommonLaw and #CivilLaw lawyers, to create the specifications needed to augment or add to standard markdown or notational formats so they they can be more functional than just a standard PDF.

  18. "Under English common-law tradition, the judiciary is bound by precedent: principles established by judges in previous cases are binding for future ones. This puts case law on an equal footing with legislation.

The civil-law tradition traces back to the Code Napoléon, a legal system that was set up in France under Napoleon, which restricted both the independence & the discretion of the judiciary, subordinating it to the legislature."

  19. This article is a good introduction to the 2 types of legal systems in the world: the English common-law and the French-German civil-law. Most countries in the world practice one of these 2.

  20. How people pick and choose which #Bible verses to take literally, which to enforce as #civillaw, tells us more about the person, than about God's will. The #Torah indeed is religiously amazing - but #fundamentalism combined with unexamined #prejudice (which we all have) prevents us from understanding it.
So on a related note, how do #Jewish people read the Torah?

  21. And that project was short, but soon I got on a new project, which lasted longer & I had more involvement.

That was an #AntiTrust case (during the heyday of int'l cartel investigations by DOJ). I didn't know anything about American law, or Japanese law for that matter. But I loved the concept of #CommonLaw. Compared with #CivilLaw, it's structure reflects changes in the society more in the bottom-up way.
