When I visited Siem Reap, the incredible complex of abandoned temples in Cambodia, I remember being struck by how much the rulers much have overstretched themselves. They must have failed to understand the fundamentals of what it takes to sustain their civilization. Maybe failed to heed warnings from farmers and others involved with maintaining their food & water. Perhaps struck them down making others fear telling the truth.
I imagined this happening over decades.
Reading headlines I wonder if they just ended up with a Trump in power. We are close to ruining our food production systems because some idiot is in charge who doesn't understand a single bit of foreign politics or the precariousness of our modern civilisation.Still it was a sunny day and I made the most of it. Mustn't grumble.

"Life expectancy at birth in Roman Egypt was just 27.3 for women and 26.2 for men."
"As the empire expanded, the Romans took the show—including all their diseases—on the road. In every location, “The empire’s arrival led to the hasty construction of the first town, in Roman style, with baths and aqueducts, drains, heating systems, and latrines. Despite the amenities, a reasonable answer to the question ‘What have the Romans ever done for us?’ might have been ‘Got us sick.’ Mortality rates went up.”

«I have to be honest and say as someone who has worked on climate change for years, my best guess is that we are going to fail. But it is a choice to fail. Political leaders, academia and journalism have repeatedly chosen to fail on #climate for 30 years» -#KevinAnderson
"We" have chosen to fail, or "they" have chosen to fail?
Simply put: +3 or +4C, 80 years from now and ours kids will live through H. Sapiens extinction.
