You are invited to watch The Eternal Song on September 30.

If you are joining us virtually, the film will begin at 6:00pm. If you are attending in person at the Civic Hub in Kitchener, there will be a feast from 5:30pm to 6:00pm. Potluck style is encouraged, if you are able to contribute. Please bring your feast bundle to eat with. Let’s wear our Orange Shirts and put our heads, hearts and hands together as we engage in healing ourselves, our communities, our Nations and our planet from the harms of colonization.

In the spirit of reciprocity, this fundraiser will be sharing proceeds with the Kinema platform, A Womb With A View, and some of the Indigenous groups highlighted in the film.

Please join us on Truth and Reconciliation Day for a unique perspective on healing from colonization. We will have a brief circle afterwards to debrief and selected craft items & Orange Shirts will be on sale. If you are unable to join us, please share this information and/or consider sponsoring a ticket for someone else to participate.

Join us for an afternoon of Learning and Solidarity: A Dialogue on Transgender Day of Remembrance at our next Civic Hub exchange lunch on November 20th.

Our guest speaker for that day is Milo Tia Hansen (they/them). They are a transgender, queer, disabled, advocate for solutions to homelessness, Indigenous sovereignty, and queer liberation, with lived experience and knowledge in activism of being homeless intergenerationally, extreme poverty, queerness, and disability.

Milo will talk about a few definitions and the history of the day (Starting 1999 honouring Rita Hester’s death in 1998), bring it into contemporary issues (current state of affairs in Canada, critical lens in regards to race) and why we need to continue commemorating those who have been lost to gendered violence. They also hope to share experiences they have had with losing loved ones to all kinds of violence in the wake of election results, considering our current political climate, as well as hold space for those lost in the last year. They will then open the floor to questions.

If you are planning to attend the lunch in person, or online, please register on Zoom for the event.

This is a hybrid event. Light meal provided.

  4. Community Dinner at St. John’s Church, 5pm on Sunday 3 March 2024

    Laura Hamilton writes:

I wanted to make sure that you are all aware of the upcoming community dinner at St John’s Church this Sunday. The Community Kitchen Co‑op is hosting this in the hope that members of the congregation can learn more about good work that is happening through the Civic Hub. Thompson Tran (of The Wooden Boat) will be preparing the meal, and it will the include Vegan, Vegetarian and Halal options.

Dinner is free or donate what you can. I have also heard murmuring in the church that some folks would like to see the property turned into affordable housing… so this will be a wonderful opportunity for you to share your knowledge of the need for housing over a meal with unsuspecting parishioners.

ALL ARE WELCOME! Please invite your friends! Please register at Eventbrite: Community Dinner.
