Beginning in Marin County and heading clockwise, the counties are Marin, Sonoma, Napa, Solano, Contra Costa, Alameda, Santa Clara, San Mateo, and San Francisco. Each county provides a distinct perspective on the overall region of NorCal, with the following county seat locations by county: County Seats Marin — San Rafael Sonoma — […]

  6. @GottaLaff My career employment, not counting our family business and consulting, was as a mid-level environmental manager, but I was lucky enough to be in a union in a fully unionized local government, the #CityOfSanJose, City Association of Management Personnel (CAMP), International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers, Local 21 AFL-CIO. #IFPTE #AFLCIO

  7. @futurebird More than 40 years ago, the #CityOfSanJose agreed to switch all of the street lights to low-pressure sodium-vapor lamps, because their light is a monochromatic yellow with a wavelength near 589 nm that could be filtered out by the telescopes at #LickObservatory. They were also more energy efficient. The effort was somewhat half-assed, since upscale mechants didn’t like the aesthetics and the PD didn’t like the loss of color—you can’t tell a purple car from a green one. Early LEDs were monochromatic, I think, but white LEDs are not.

  8. @legoktm Excellent start. I worked for the #CityOfSanJose from 1989 to 2015, so I was aware of Candidate and Councilmember #Fiscalini while he was most active in City politics. I didn’t agree with his policy positions, mostly, but he seemed to be honest and true to his campaign promises, which was not true of all his peers.

  9. @CStamp The #CityOfSanJose has removed statues of Columbus and #ThomasFallon (the first American mayor) from City property. OTOH, when the Fremont statue first became controversial, they tried to balance things with a work recognizing the Latino population. We ended up with “Plumed Serpenf,” a second-rate sculpture of #Quetzalcóatl by #RobertGraham that was nothing like the work that he proposed and was paid for. atlasobscura.com/places/quetza
