So #gaming in #CityOfHeroes got a new update and two new powersets. I've been on a "selfish support" kick lately so I made a Light Affinity defender. I wanted to avoid the usual "light = holy" theme, so I went Beach Bunny with it. Of course I love wordplay names, so I went with Beach Please.

#CityOfHeroes is one of the rare few games that you can actually play effectively when you're completely smashed. It's one of the reasons I love the game. But that only works if someone else is managing the team and all you have to focus on is yourself.

The biggest problem in #CityofHeroes is nobody ever wants to lead teams. Everyone has a severe star allergy. It's really annoying. Most of the time I just want to casually follow along and carry a team, but nobody will lead.

@massivelyop I think it would at a minimum had a much better chance. Clearly there are players out there who wanted #cityofheroes back but it's not an unlimited population. And the group at ship had good ideas and passion, but that wasn't enough to compete with the original(ish) version

So I'm back to CoH after a 455 days break (and lost a few names, nothing major).

400++ days ago, just before the name-change change update, I already did a round of clean-up to delete (name-release) a bunch of characters I don't like. Now that I did a quick review of the remaining 59 characters, I think I will do another round of clean-up.

I've played this game on and off since shortly after it was released in the early 2000s. It was always my fallback MMO, any time I tried something else and got tired of it, I always found my way back to #CityofHeroes and never tired of it.
When it was shuttered, those were the longest years, where I had nothing to go back to when I tired of other games.
And yet here I am decades later still playing every week, unfailingly.
It stands the test of time.

It's always wonderful when I can lead a lost soul back to the fold. #CityofHeroes is one of the very few MMOs that have come back from the dead. I'll post on social media about it as much as I can, to reach the people who haven't heard the good news yet.

Tonight for #gaming I decided to go back to one of my very first characters I made when I rediscovered #Homecoming #CityofHeroes and rebuild it from scratch.
Unfortunately I didn't really care about optimization back then, so the guy is loaded with bullshit enhancements. It's costing me a fortune to kit this guy out again.

Meet the OC: Heiroglyph

Heiroglyph is a title. He says he’s a cursed name – someone made him long ago, using language magic to give him life for a deeply worrying purpose. He lay dormant, carved in stone, forgotten when that language died… until someone translated him. Now he walks a world overflowing with words. Did you know some things can read and remember text without being people? Wonderfully convenient for a desert-born scourge with a curse older than oceans.

Approaching Heiroglyph is like trying to pet a cat made of tar – either you never make contact, or something sticks forever. He’s friendly, mostly. Don’t bother asking his real name. He’ll smile and say, “You wouldn’t survive it.”

But you can call him Seikh, for convenience. Sounds like Seek.

My usual team mate for #CityofHeroes quit early tonight so I kept playing on my own. And as I got a smidge on the drunky side, I kept letting slide some secrets I should not have.
What's being an elite player if you don't gatekeep a little?

Really solid #gaming tonight in #CityofHeroes on my Arsenal Control dominator, a character I haven't played in awhile. I forgot how versatile it is as a control set. We did some of the new Kallisti Wharf morality arcs, which tend to be pretty tough. Especially if you get Blackwing, which are highly overtuned. 55 Blackwing are overpowered beyond belief, devs need to retune them.

Meet The OC: Rile

Rile is a problem solver. That is, he’s a problem, and he helps solve things. Gabriel Singer escaped a covert lab where he was built, not born. His panic and horror leak out in combat, corroding minds and pushing people toward violence. He doesn’t want to hurt anyone (he does, actually, but he’s working on it — don’t be weird). The world doesn’t always give him a choice.

He’s quiet, intense, and clearly not okay. Polite, even gentle, but tension clings to him like static. People feel it when he enters. He avoids crowds and flinches at praise, but shows up when it counts. Even if it breaks him a little more each time.

It’s hard to be a hero when you’re a threat to the peace.
