  1. .. these photos are from the poorest, most deprived estate in the country, from the town which according to the mainstream press is in the grip of a 'terrorist siege' by organised crime who allegedly murdered several young men followed by family members in retaliation plus 2 cops this last week.

they haven't bothered to get into why young ppl get into organised crime, just blame & shame them, throw them in prison & forget about the consequences. oh & march in 200 police to pretend the system is doing something, but never actually deal with the cause cause that would mean admitting the system is the culprit with the ppl in power.

    #GifsArtidote:
☆ force multinationals to pay back 95% of their profits & invest it in lifelong #PublicEducation, skills training, free healthcare, #PublicHousing, #PublicTransport, public amenities etc.

☆ ban multinationals to trade in the country unless they pay 95% tax & register their business here.

☆ stop any possibility for any one to influence politics with money or services, other than through the public political processes everyone can engage in. these processes should be changed so that there's no hierarchy in it, & everyone can participate.

☆ end private property for everything except consumables like housing (max 1 house per household). everyone should be given a suitable, safe & good quality house fit for climate change & 0% fossil fuel emissions.

  4. University of New Hampshire: Bystander videos are ‘fundamentally changing how the news is made’. “Just weeks before [Alex] Pretti’s death, Renee Good was shot and killed by federal agents during Operation Metro Surge, a large-scale ICE deployment in Minnesota. In the Good case, too, bystander videos analyzed by professional journalists contradicted the government’s account of the incident.”

  9. 20 years of #Twitter… it is crucial to understand its successes & failures.

"The original #ambientjournalism framework marked a departure from traditional, intentional consumption, like reading a newspaper or watching a TV news bulletin. The main features of ambient #journalism were immediacy, unexpected discoveries, and the blending of professional and #citizenjournalism enabled by Twitter. Its architecture, with a reverse-#chronologicalfeed, a 140-character limit, and a #socialgraph-based network structure, supported what #AxelBruns called #produsage, where publics act as both users and producers of information. In this ambient environment, retweeting was not just an engagement metric but a #curatorialact of journalism. This reflects a broader shift in digital journalism research toward the news ecosystem and landscape, including ambient and networked forms of journalism emerging from #socialmedia practices."

  14. RE: mastodon.social/@AwetTesfaiesu

Of the perverse effect of #generativeAI: complete loss of #trust on everything you see, sunk time verifying every piece of #socialmedia #news, and the death of #citizenjournalism.
I still don't know whether this picture is AI generated. I wasted time finding the source, only to wonder if SyriaNow is actually linked to #AlJazeera or not.
Basically being exhausted now, I have the impression #AI killed the ability for people to organise & fight back by poisoning both #media structure & #content.

  19. (continued...)

#Journalism can practice things OK but is too often driven by a #commercial #container relaying different commercial objectives and commercial ideals - more than personal 1st person forms of #reporting or #live #talk.

Citizen journalism involves more everyday #humanity collaborating.

#CitizenJournalism are citizens themselves as an #alternative and #activist form of reporting, functioning outside of #mainstream #media & #institutions.

  23. @willsigg But even before that #Journalism

The right idea is talking with the people (I think "Citizen Journalism" is similar / better perhaps).

A ground level response (not always in person but can be online via audio chat also)

#CitizenJournalism has been great for taking best bits from people reactions or as best examples of good / bad bits in life and *importantly* our feelings...

Feelings, the system doesn't want (so it's a great service #CitizenJournalism gives + we need feelings)

I always support the initiative to combat modern news outlets, and I'm currently working on increasing the share of decentralized solutions, which is why I'm here. We also have a news outlet where we deal with hard topics. Of course, we may make mistakes, but we will not defend the global elite, censorship, or war crimes. I'm glad to meet you, and let’s work together to spread the truth about these global villains and enhance the impact of decentralized social networks.
Anyone who sees this post, join me @newsgroup, @MissConstrue, and @Bellingcat.
Let’s unite for impact, spread the truth, and declare war on any form of centralization!
