New murmuration movie of tracers following ordinary matter collapsing into a forming cluster of galaxies, in a fully Eulerian MHD Enzo simulation run at #CINECA (Italy).

Unwrapping some of the new simulation data produced at #CINECA during holidays, where I multiply relaunched runs while mostly busy eating.
This is a composite view of the last simulated cluster, of galaxies (from z=30 to z=0) which we will use together with the others to study the possible formation mechanism of large scale radio emission.

This approach can already be extended to larger radio datasets, and will keep be improved waiting for the Square kilometer array.
Once the network is trained, the time to analyse a single radio map of 2000 x 2000 pixels is just of 0.7s, i.e. incredibly faster than any human-based technique.
Everything was done on the M100 and Leonardo superclusters at #CINECA.

Not entirely trivial to reconstruct the actual cosmic web distribution of gas based on the radio observation, given that the filling factors of the two fields are quite different. -

@cameronneylon Agreed. An example of centralisation in Italy is #CINECA, a state-owned business which has a monopoly-by-ministry-decree on things like institutional repositories. Now it's DSpace and it's debatable how good it is. But if it gets worse, universities are probably locked in no matter what. Say it raises prices tenfold. Or sell the entire service to RELX. Or make a HPC deal with China/USA and delete "terrorist" papers.

Supercomputer Leonardo: ecco come funziona e a cosa servirà. Le applicazioni, le informazioni tecniche e il bando rivolto a progetti che potranno sfruttare le risorse computazionali. La super macchina diventerà pienamente operativa per gli utenti a fine marzo 2023.
