fuck yes -- YIVO's new United Hebrew Trades collection still yielding some real gems. this is an ad in the back of the UHT's 40th anniversary journal (1928). Benjamin Greenberg (1882–1944) was, like Joseph Moskowitz, born in Galați Romania and apparently followed in his cimbalist-restaurateur footsteps.

clearly a different cymbalist playing a totally different instrument on this one (a concert cimbalom with dampeners and much larger range). curious who it might have been, there weren't that many players in New York in that era, and almost no Ukrainian ones.

Here's an interesting Hungarian-style #cimbalom and #tarogato piece by anonymous artists, recorded in NYC around 1910. The tarogato player may have been called A. Selzer.

But now that I've been back I've had time to finish researching it and typing it up. A look at some of the better and lesser known Jewish cimbalom players from the directories of A.F.M. local 802, 1922-50. A truly niche deep dive for my own interest!

Found out about her while researching a blog post about old Jewish #cimbalom players from New York... Regina Spielman (née Szegeti?) born in Máramarossziget, Hungary in 1885, lived in Budapest for a time and possibly Kolomyyia; came to NY in 1923. Played on the radio a bit in NY in the 1920s with a family trio. Apparently related to the violinist Joseph Szigeti. Lived in the Bronx most of her life and died in 1966.
