I opened an account at a credit union (VanCity) in 2018 as an act of protest against Canadian Big Banks that profit immensely from their investment in fossil fuel infraustrcture.
I guess a few other people did too… they're offering me a whole $75 to encourage others to sign up.
I'll pay them 5 cents to stop harassing me.

Finally, in January, the fee was again reversed.
What is more concerning to me than the charge at this point is CIBC's unilateral edits to my account's transaction history and the reapplication of the charge with absolutely no notice after I'd been assured it would be reversed.
How often is CIBC arbitrarily editing account transaction details elsewhere to rip people off?
Pure sleaze.
Never trust these corporate whores.

I complained (and posted here) about this last fall.
CIBC's call centre promised to reverse the transaction, which was done. A month later, the fee was back, and the prior charge & reversal had been erased.
When I called again, CIBC had a record of our prior conversation, but claimed not to be able to know any details—despite recording every call. No explanation was given for the missing transaction details.

I posted yesterday about a #cibc #visa #scam to screw #giftcard buyers with bogus charges.
I complained to the bank & they reversed it. I also wrote the vendor; see attached.
This is definitely one of the slimiest ripoffs by a bank I’ve seen. Bear in mind they’re also charging the vendor the usual credit card fee.
This is CIBC saying, hey let’s grab some cash from our stupid suckers and if they don’t like it, let them waste 90 minutes phoning us.

So, here's a cute little banking #scam
I bought a $50 #Aritizia #gift #certificate for a family member online. The day after the transaction was posted, I see a #CIBC "cash adv/bt/conv chq" fee for $5 on my credit card (10% of the purchase).
I called to inquire, not knowing what was going on. The bank (after an hour wait) informed me the vendor had somehow incurred a cash advance fee, charged to me.
After polite vigorous debate & another 30 minute wait, CIBC reversed the charge.

At the bank - handwritten sign indicating to use the ATM or banking app, don't bother the tellers.
Sure go ahead and get behind the celebrities and their aversion to AI taking their jobs and then look the other way at the bank, and the grocery store, and the restaurants, etc.

CIBC National Trust of Chicago, a US division of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) have notified their Private Wealth Management customers that their data have been stolen when their third party service provider, Pension Benefit Information (PBI) was hit by a cyberattack in May.
The PBI breach was one of the many organization that fell victim to the much wider MOVEIt breaches by the Cl0p ransomware gang.
There's no word on how many clients were affected & how much information was stolen as the letter seen by IT World Canada was heavily redacted.

CW: CIBC's tracking is getting more invasive.
A few months ago many people could not log in to CIBC's web site because they had turned on multiple trackers that sent data to third-party companies who would know every time you logged in. What would they know? 🤷🏻♂️ Those with ad-blockers couldn't log in.
They had to backtrack on that a bit but now they send me an insecure SMS message every time.
Today their login went into an infinite redirect loop in Chrome. I had to use Firefox with no blockers. #CIBC
