  1. Bishops rarely interest me beyond a sigh at their latest snipe at women or #LGBT. Or even worse, their grudging small concessions.

But #PaulColton was different. As #ChurchOfIreland Bishop of #Cork, Cloyne & Ross, Paul was an unequivocal supporter of gay rights. In 2003, he called for the church to ask for forgiveness of #gay people: churchofireland.org/news/1099/

In the 2010s, he supported marriage equality.

Paul was the last #CoI bishop to have served in the 20th century. rte.ie/news/ireland/2026/0418/

  10. 1858 – Baronscourt Church of Ireland, Newtownstewart, Co. Tyrone
    Architect: Clarke & Bell

Unusual and charming small Church of Ireland with traceried windows - their smaller size probably making the roof lights necessary. Described by Rowan as 'essentially English' but drawings exist f

  11. A Church of Ireland church near Schull, in Co. Cork, is set in scenic landscape beside Toormore Bay.

We drove past, and I saw it was surrounded by a sea of wildflowers, mostly oxeye daisies, and also dandelions. On our return from Crookhaven I vowed to stop and spend half an hour there taking photos.

  19. The choir of #StAnnsDawsonStreet get two Sundays off each year. The Sunday after Easter Sunday and the Sunday after Christmas Day.

As such I am at a loose end tomorrow morning.

What do people who aren't #ChurchMusicians do on Sunday mornings?

  20. Back in the States to the news that "Commanded by an angel from heaven," an essay of mine about #JonathanSwift, the #ChurchofIreland, and practice versus doctrine will be appearing sometime soon-ish in a #UniversityofDelawarePress publication and that "A cricketing alphabetiary," which is just about what it sounds, but with a focus on #EssexCricket, is forthcoming in the small magazine #CountyCricketMatters [countycricketmatters.com/], which is most definitely worth subscribing to, by the way.

  22. My grandfather, Brian Snow, was a #ChurchOfIreland #priest. I don't know enough about his motives and beliefs, and I wish I'd asked. I'll interrogate his four children, my mother and uncles, some point soon, to find out more.

I recall him as fairly #HighChurch, and deeply committed to pastoral work. He was always driving around visiting his parishioners, especially the sick and those in difficulties. He got on really well with his RC local counterparts, and not at all well with his superiors.
