I'm working on an original translation of the Bible. My goal is to let the words of scripture guide my translation rather than reading a favored theology into the text. As the saying goes, "Where the Bible speaks, we speak, where it is silent, we are silent." In addition to being a formal equivalence, I try to preserve original idioms (with clarification in the footnotes), poetic and metaphorical language, and distinct synonyms (ie. land/ground/dust) where possible.
The text is available under a Creative Commons license. And it is available at a website, and as an ebook, though it is still incomplete.

Thinking about when the dorm supervisor at my conservative Christian university told me I needed to "remove the poster of the naked man" from my wall.
It was a poster of Michelangelo's "The Creation of Adam" that I'd picked up in Vatican City the previous summer. 🙄
me: he's not even sexy! 😫 😆

Some of y'all know and some of you don't, but I have a conservative, tending-toward-fundamentalist, evangelical Christian background (#ChurchOfChrist #COfC). And some of y'all don't/know that I am now an a/theist (will attempt defining if asked).
So when two 20yo Mormon boys stop at my front yard while my mom and I are planting irises, I have *opinions*.
I didn't voice the opinions. Those poor kids wouldn't be able to deal, and I don't wanna be the one to yank away safety nets before...

I feel so relieved and liberated not to be a member of the #ChurchOfChrist #CofC #CoC anymore.
And these days, one of the reasons I feel so glad and relieved is that #RyanWalters is a member of that denomination.
I feel like I got out right before the writing on the wall began.

I've been awake for who knows how long. Since 2 hours before my alarm is set to go off, anyway. So, since I'm unwillingly awake, here's something further about #ChurchOfChrist #CofC #CoC, the tending-fundamentalist denomination I grew up in. Something I found out yesterday about the eldership of one of the local congregations.
A #ChurchOfChrist eldership, if you don't already know, is a group of men selected by the congregation to lead and make decisions for the congregation.

Thinking about my #cultish upbringing in the #ChurchOfChrist #CoC #CofC and how glad I am that I got out before my daughter was born.
Until recently, I'm afraid, spouse and I still allowed her to go to church with her grandparents when she spent a Saturday night with them.
I always knew that would end as soon as she expressed discomfort at being there. That expression happened this past summer.

@RamenCatholic My one "consolation" was that two of the men apologized to me in private about my having been "embarrassed."
I wasn't embarrassed. I was dismayed and livid.
It took another 4 or 5 years, but I finally left and have not looked back.
