I started building Chunk knowing I’d support all of Apple’s major platforms but assumed iOS would be the main focus. Looks like I underestimated the Mac.

Since January it’s closed the gap as far as usage and will probably surpass iOS as the top platform people use Chunk. Which is why in the 2.0 release I made sure show lots of attention to the Mac app. I’m proud of the work. Hope you all love it too.

I launched nearly 6 months ago and I feel like I’ve finally crossed a threshold as far as market fit!!

I’ve recently totally moved to a freemium model and dropped trials. My conversion rates were terrible. 😣

Very high conversion rates after letting people use it in a limited fashion. #indiedev

I've been quiet and just focusing on shipping updates to #Chunk. We've seen lots of growth lately, possibly from #Perplexity backlash.

There's a lot of emotions surrounding #LLMs at the moment, some I agree with and some I don’t.

Between some folks in tech media (understandably) feeling let down by Apple and Perplexity shooting themselves in the foot by being super shady to the very (media) they rely on, there's a growing resentment towards the technology at least in the tech community.

I’m still very much a student when it comes to #Python and building scalable backend code in general but FINALLY getting Celery/Redis to work on background tasks after 3 days felt like an achievement 😭 🙌🏽

Since adding Claude and soon Gemini to #Chunk I’m excited for #WWDC to see what Apple has planned for local LLM support for devs (if anything)

If I can provide a way for users to use on device LLMs as an option that would be awesome.

Also curious if #Apple will have deals in place for better API rates if using cloud based LLM providers.

I finally moved #Chunk to my own servers and a few other tweaks and I have dramatically improved response times!

It’s now just as fast as Perplexity!

Nearly instant, even when searching the web and stored documents. Update coming in a few days! #SwiftUI #Python

I'm hoping, localizing will at least increase my conversion rates. I'll update in a month and share if anything changed.

Decided Friday night was a good time to start working on Localization for #Chunk. lol

1 language down….about 6-8 more to go…

The good news Xcode has made it much easier to localize strings since the last time I had to localize an app 6-7 years ago.

After creating a Localized String file, build the app and all (most) of your strings key/values automatically get added to it.

I said I was gonna be more transparent about my journey with my latest app, Chunk. So here goes some more interesting data.

After a little over 3 months in the App Store(s) iOS/macOS/VisionOS I've gotten over 2K downloads, 71.6K total impressions, 4.6K Product Page impressions. (*I have experimented with Apple Search Ads, about $500*)

My download conversion rate is pretty good, but my subscriber conversion rate sucks. #ConfessionsOfAIndieDev
