  1. It has been known for a while that cancer cells go through a process known as chromothripsis that results in the genetic chromosome being smashed into hundreds of pieces, causing massive rearrangements of sequence.

    How this was done has been unclear, but UT Southwestern scientists have begun to tease apart the complexes keeping the pieces together and assisting in daughter cell genome clustering.
