Not sitting and watching it. God no, I can't imagine doing that. Maybe one day years from now.
Just bloody HEARING about it 300 times a day it is bad enough.
He's not a bad film maker at all. He's good at what he does. But the way he gets treated as some kind of genius is seriously baffling to me.

Ammetto che la mia conoscenza dell’Odissea, l’originale Omerico, era (è) alquanto arrugginita. I ricordi risalgono al periodo scolastico, con blandi ripassi in periodi successivi, in parte per mia curiosità, in parte per gli studi della Comizietta, che ha fatto il classico e io l’ascoltavo mentre ripeteva le lezioni di epica. Visto che la trama del film, a grandi linee, è abbastanza fedele all’originale ed è conosciuta da tutti, secondo me un ripasso su wikiepdia, magari solo i personaggi, aiuta la comprensione del film. La parte originale della storia sta nelle stesse immagini del film, riguarda alcuni dettagli della storia e soprattutto alcuni dialoghi di Ulisse.
Il personaggio di Ulisse è molto frammentato, non esiste un personaggio perfettamente definito nell’opera, e non ci sarà nemmeno nel film. Le varie parti che interpreta però sono molto moderne o forse dovrei dire attuali: pragmatico quando serve, al limite della spietatezza, rispettoso delle tradizioni e della religione quando è giusto, spavaldo e al contempo fatalista, grande osservatore e conoscitore dell’animo umano. Ci sono tanti Ulisse. Ma Nolan esegue una piccola forzatura, rispetto a Omero: alla fine del film Ulisse in qualche modo si ricompone, cerca di trarre una conclusione da tutta la sua avventura. Nonostante sia esausto da 20 anni di distanza da casa, da una guerra e mille peripezie, la sua voglia di novità non si è esaurita, ma ha trovato una nuova dimensione, l’amore, e una nuova consapevolezza: la rinascita dopo un periodo di crisi. È un messaggio di pace e di speranza per tutti, non solo per se stesso e la sua Itaca. È uno sguardo rivolto verso il futuro.
Nel film vengono citati i popoli del mare, temutissimi pirati e predatori di origine sconosciuta, forse alcuni sbandati sopravvissuti alla lunga guerra con Troia. Se vi interessa la parte storica della vicenda, chi siano questi popoli è spiegato nel podcast di Luca Misculin del 2021, La fine del mondo.
Veniamo ora agli aspetti tecnici del film. Nolan è completamente folle: ha girato tutto il film (e sono quasi tre ore!) su pellicola IMAX 70 mm. 610 km di pellicola che costa 2000$ al minuto. Un mini documentario di Geopop spiega alcuni dettagli. Ma l’analogico non è solo nella pellicola: lo troviamo anche negli effetti speciali, spiegati su ilpost.
Per i gioielli vi lascio nelle mani di Vogue.
Un piccolo dettaglio, forse stonato. A un certo punto Ulisse descrive la sua epoca come “età del bronzo”. Dubito che i contemporanei di Ulisse pensassero a se stessi come appartenenti all’età del bronzo.
Per il reso scegliete una sala con un grande schermo (gli schermi giusti per l’IMAX 70mm sono tutti fuori dall’Italia) e assicuratevi che ci sia un primo e secondo tempo se siete deboli di vescica.
Per chi non ne avesse abbastanza, sempre su ilPost, trovate un mini podcast con la lettura e spiegazione del primo libro dell’opera omerica, scritto e letto da Luca Misculin. Anche questo molto utile prima della visione del film.
