Another name for Christmas lights is “fairy lights”. The first building in the world to be entirely lit by Electricity was the Savoy Theatre in London in 1881. Richard D'Oyly Carte went a step further by incorporating miniature lights into the costumes of the fairies in his production of Iolanthe. Hence fairy lights.

I still prefer the old-style “Union Solidarity” Christmas tree lights of my distant youth.
When one went out, they would *all* go out.

Due to various room changes the place I normally put my tree is no longer available. So I’ve moved it to the corner I usually have a pile of shoes in and in front of a closet (Room 3b). There’s no sockets in that corner so I’m relying on battery powered lights this year. I probably need to get more as they’re a bit weedy. #ChristmasTreeLights
