  1. Fighting From a Place of Exhaustion

    When Is Enough Enough?

This morning, I woke up carrying more than I wanted to.

Yesterday, after another back procedure, the doctor sat with me and began talking about what comes next.

Not the next step I wanted.

Not the next step I prayed for.

The next step they offer when everything else has failed.

A procedure they once only used for cancer patients, but now use for people living with chronic pain. A tube leading directly to my spine. Medication delivered into my body for the rest of my life. Appointments every few months to refill it. Another thing to manage. Another thing to carry.

And as I lay here this morning, trying to process all of that, I found myself asking God a question I never wanted to ask.

    Not “Why me?”

    But “When is enough enough?”

Because the truth is, the old me—even the me from just yesterday morning—would have immediately gone into survival mode.

“Okay. What do we need to do?”
    “Let’s make a plan.”
    “Let’s prepare.”
    “Let’s figure this out.”

But where God has me now is different.

This morning, all I could say was:

“God, what are You telling me?”

Because I do not just need a plan.

    I need Him.

And if I am honest, I am struggling.

Because I keep thinking about the promises I thought God gave me.

    I thought healing was coming.

And now I find myself questioning what healing was ever supposed to mean.

Did God promise me a life without pain?

Or did He promise that He would never leave me nor forsake me?

Because there are people doing the work of God from wheelchairs.

There are people still ministering while grieving.
    Still loving while hurting.
Still believing while living with things they begged God to take away.

I think about the woman we are helping who is homeless, and yet somehow still full of faith.

    And I ask myself:

Do I have to become one of those people?

Do I have to spend the rest of my life in pain to prove my love for God?

Do I have to keep surviving instead of living?

Because that is what this really comes down to.

I am tired of feeling like I have to fight so hard for every little piece of joy.

I am tired of feeling like every good thing comes with a battle attached to it.

I am tired of wondering when I finally get to exhale.

When do I get to live from a place of peace instead of pressure?

When do I get to wake up and not immediately feel like I am carrying something?

When do I stop feeling like happiness is always just out of reach?

And maybe those are not the “church answers.”

Maybe those are not the neat, polished things we are supposed to say.

    But they are true.

And this morning, I think God is asking me for truth more than performance.

Because maybe faith is not pretending I am okay.

Maybe faith is telling the truth about how hard this is.

Maybe faith is being brave enough to say:

“God, I do not know what to do next.”

Because this morning, I do not.

I do not know what decision I will make.

I do not know what healing will look like.

I do not know what my future body will require from me.

I do not know why some prayers seem to take so long.

    But I do know this:

    I am still here.

I am still talking to God.

    I am still listening.

And even in all of this, I still believe that He is with me.

The truth is, this morning I do not feel strong.

I feel like a little girl again.

Like the part of me that just wants somebody to say, “It is going to be okay.”

And maybe that is what I need to let God do.

Not give me all the answers.

Not show me the whole future.

    Just sit with me here.

    Hold me here.

    Love me here.

Because maybe being held by God is enough for today.

Maybe I do not have to solve the rest of my life this morning.

Maybe I only have to trust God with today.

So this morning, that is where I am.

    Not giving up.
    Not walking away.
    Just being honest.

I do not have all the answers.

    I just have God.

And maybe this morning, that is enough.

What do you do when life is not turning out the way you hoped—and you still have to decide how to keep going?
  2. The Pages That Wait for Me

I have had this blog since around 2004.

Long before a lot of the things that shaped me into who I am now.

And if I am honest, this blog has always kind of been there for me.

I would write for a few months, then stop.

    Come back, then disappear again.

But somehow, no matter how much time passed, it was always still there waiting for me.

And maybe that is because some things God puts in us do not leave us alone.

Even when we put them down.

    Even when we doubt them.

Even when life gets busy or painful or distracting.

And lately, God has been dealing with me differently.

    Not in a loud way.

Just in that quiet, persistent way He has.

The kind where you start something, and before you can even get comfortable with it, He says, “Okay. Now take the next step.”

    Go write the book.

And if I am honest, sometimes I laugh.

Because I am like, “God… nobody is trying to hear my stories.”

But God does not seem too concerned about my opinion when He has already decided there is purpose attached to something.

And maybe that is what this season is for me.

A season of doing things that feel outside of my norm.

A season of saying yes before I have every answer.

Because if God tells me to do it, I usually do it.

Then I figure out the rest later.

I do not always understand it.

I do not always feel ready.

But me and God have been together long enough for me to know that if He is telling me to move, there is something waiting for me on the other side of that yes.

Maybe that is really what this season has been about for me.

Not so much writing a book.

Not so much telling a story.

But finally sitting with some of my truths.

Going back and looking honestly at parts of my past that are so big, so complicated, and so unfinished that sometimes an empty page feels like the hardest kind of page.

Because an empty page can make you think about what should have been there.

    What could have been there.

The memories you wish you had.

The moments you wish had looked different.

And if you are not careful, it can make you start asking yourself the wrong question:

Why wasn’t I good enough to have that?

But I do not think that is what God has been trying to show me.

I do not think I was not good enough.

I think I was strong enough.

Strong enough to survive what I did have.

Strong enough to carry what I carried.

Strong enough to still become somebody full of love, hope, and faith in spite of what was missing.

And I never want this to sound like some “woe is me” story, because it is not that.

    I had an amazing family.

    I have been loved.

    I have laughed.

    I have lived.

But I think what it has taught me is to honor the good that God has placed in my life.

    To stop overlooking it.

To stop acting like it is small just because it came later or looked different than what I expected.

Because every person, every relationship, every lesson, every hard season, every answered prayer, every unexpected blessing became another piece of the puzzle.

    Another piece of my family.

    Another piece of my community.

Another piece of who I am.

And maybe that is what God has been trying to show me all along.

That the pages in my life were never empty at all.

    They were full of truth.

    Full of grace.

    Full of strength.

Full of the kind of story only God could piece together.

And maybe that is what I am learning now:

There are still pages that wait for me.

    Pages of healing.

    Pages of truth.

    Pages of becoming.

Pages I was not ready to read before, but I am ready to face now.

And at this point in my life, I have learned that when God says something, I would rather trust Him and look a little crazy than ignore Him and miss what He was trying to do.

Have you ever felt like there was a part of your story waiting for you to come back to it?

Leave a comment and tell me: What page in your life is waiting for you right now?

  10. “You obey your masters' laws, and I shall obey the laws of my God. You fear your masters and I fear God. You are careful not to offend them, I take pains not to offend God. You want to please them, I wish to please Christ. Do then what you think will be of benefit to you, and I shall do what I think is good for me”

  11. Lucy then fell asleep, and had a vision of Agatha standing surrounded by angels and adorned with precious stones, and Agatha said to her: "My sister Lucy, virgin consecrated to God, why do you ask me for something that you yourself can do for your mother? Indeed, your faith has already cured her." Lucy, awakening, said to her mother: "Mother, you are healed!”

  12. I asked the AI chatGPT to write a #GregorianChant about #SaintLucy #SantaLucia and this is what it came up with:

    Sancta Lucia, virgo martyr,
    Lux et splendor mundi,
    Tu lucem mentibus infudisti,
    Et tenebras pellisti.

    Ora pro nobis, sancta Lucia,
    Ut in tenebris lucem videamus,
    Et a mortis periculo liberati,
    In caelis cum Christo regnemus.

    Gloria Patri, et Filio,
    Et Spiritui Sancto,
    Sicut erat in principio,
    Et nunc, et semper,
    Et in saecula saeculorum. Amen.

    Saint Lucy, virgin martyr,
Light and splendor of the world,
You infused light into our minds,
    And chased away the darkness.

    Pray for us, Saint Lucy,
That in the darkness we may see the light,
And, freed from the danger of death,
We may reign with Christ in heaven.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
    And to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning,
    And now, and always,
And for ages of ages. Amen.

#Christianity #ChristianSaints #ChristianWomen I think this AI chat mostly is not great tbh but I thought this request turned out pretty good!

  13. “Wouldst thou learn thy Lord's meaning in this thing? Learn it well: Love was his meaning. Who showed it thee? Love. What showed he thee? Love. Wherefore showed it he? For Love. Hold thou therein and thou shalt learn and know more in the same. But thou shalt never know nor learn therein other thing without end…Then said our good Lord Jesus Christ: Art thou well pleased that I suffered for thee? I said: Yea, good Lord, I thank thee: Yea, good Lord, blessed mayst thou be. Then said Jesus, our kind Lord: If thou art pleased, I am pleased: it is a joy, a bliss, an endless satisfying to me that ever I suffered Passion for thee; and if I might suffer more, I would suffer more”
