Ralph Wardlaw, Scottish Congregationalist minster, comments on Proverbs 14:31. Reflecting that mercy on the poor honors God, he offers two caveats. To the humane-minded, he says, consider if you do it to honor God. To the professedly pious, consider that mercy is a way to regard God’s glory.
