  1. A quotation from Chris Boucher

THE DOCTOR: Now drop your weapons, or I’ll kill him with this deadly jelly baby.
       LUGO: Kill him, then.
       THE DOCTOR: What?
       LUGO: Kill him, then.
THE DOCTOR: I don’t take orders from anyone. [Eats jelly baby] Take me to your leader.

Doctor Who (1963), 14×04 “The Face of Evil,” Part 1 (1977-01-01)

  2. A quotation from Chris Boucher

LEELA: I know, I know, there’s no such thing as magic.
THE DOCTOR: Exactly! To the rational mind, nothing is inexplicable, only unexplained.

  3. "I always liked Chris Boucher saying that when he wrote Avon, Avon has two motivations for everything. He has the selfish motivation, and the more noble motivation, and then it's up to you to decide what's really motivating him."

Good writing sticks to telling the characters' story, in all it's messiness, and leaves the audience to interpret what it all means. Is Blake or Avon a hero or a villain? That's up to the viewer to decide.

  4. Having finished John Wyndham’s ‘The Kraken Wakes’, I think it’s only appropriate I put this to the top of the read pile. #The Black Archive on #ChrisBoucher’s ‘The Face of Evil’ #DoctorWho

  5. RIP #ChrisBoucher. He wrote 3 of my favourite stories (and lines therein) of #DoctorWho, he killed off the entire cast of #Blakes7 and ruined my Christmas in 1981 🤪and was the creator of the criminally underrated #StarCops, which I adored. In person he was a lovely chap and very self deprecating. A great loss.

  6. There are few programmes who could do an I Robot/Dune mix in the style of an Agatha Christie murder mystery, with a micro budget. 70s Doctor Who didn’t even hesitate.

    RIP #ChrisBoucher

  7. Very sad to hear that Chris Boucher has died. Wrote some classic #DoctorWho stories (Face of Evil, Robots of Death, and Image of the Fendahl) but for me will always be the man who did more to make Blake's 7 what it was than anyone else as script editor throughout the series, and with 'Blake' he wrote one of the all-time great final episodes. #ChrisBoucher #blakes7 #TV #sf

  8. In Memory Of Chris Boucher
Doctor Who The Face Of Evil

DOCTOR: Hello. Hello, did I startle you? Don't be afraid. I won't hurt you.
    LEELA: The Evil One.
DOCTOR: Well, nobody's perfect, but that's overstating it a little. I'm the Doctor. What's your name?
    LEELA: Leela.
DOCTOR: Leela. A nice name, Leela. I never met anyone called Leela. Would you like a jelly baby?
LEELA: It's true, then. They say the Evil One eats babies.

  9. I’m very sad to hear that #ChrisBoucher has died. What a contribution he made to UK TV sf — #Blakes7 #DoctorWho #StarCops on telly and in spin-offs.

He was also a hugely important part of my professional writing life, too.

Not just with characters and concepts for Big Finish, but right back to the early 1980s when he sent a long, handwritten reply on BBC notepaper about a story I sent him about Blake’s 7 full of insight and encouragement.

So glad I thanked him for that when I finally met him.

  10. I'm seeing reports on the fascist bird site that TV writer Chris Boucher has died. He wrote the brilliant Robots of Death for #DoctorWho and the script editor for #Blakes7 throughout its run, for which he wrote many episodes. He also worked on various British cop shows and was the creator of the niche series Star Cops. He will be missed.

  11. Sad to hear of the death of #ChrisBoucher … one of the great seventies #DoctorWho writers …

And the last surviving apparantly …

His WHOs rank as the very best …

    RIP Chris …images.immediate.co.uk/product
