my choir (Vancouver Jewish Folk Choir) has been having a harder time than usual finding a replacement alto section lead since our old one left town for school. if you know someone in #Vancouver who would be open to singing in in a progressive secular Jewish choir (lot of Yiddish, but also English, Hebrew, Ladino, etc.) please pass it along. it's a paid position one evening a week plus occasional concerts.

well, there are some bigger historical #Yiddish choirs from NY I should probably write #Wikipedia articles about first, but I photographed a bunch of documents from the Kultur Gezelshaft Khor back at YIVO so I figured I should type up what I could find. a Yiddish art choir that broke away from the communist choir in 1929 to be non partisan heh

For years I've been wanting to join a choir (used to sing extensively in high school and college, as well as play instruments), but I've been too much of a chicken.
Anyways, any choirs (preferably mixed and non-auditioned, max of two concerts a year that aren't too high profile) people can recommend in #Edmonton? I'm also doing the ol' Google, but figured I'd ask here for the human experience. TY!

It's rare that both Youtube and the Internet Archive fail me, but they did a spectacular job of it last night! So let's see if anyone here can help me. I am seeking recordings of Welsh or English choirs from 1893 to about 1951, maybe slightly later, as long as they're not too modern. I am trying to find those that align with the singing style and music of the time of Clara Novello Davies, (I chose the lifetime of Ivor, since she was born in 1861, before recordings started), and yes, there is a difference between those and modern ones. Can anyone please assist me? Perplexity gave me a list of choir names, but either they weren't available, or their recordings were much too late/contemporary to make my list.
