When members regularly log their learning progress in Chorister, readiness scores and trends are calculated for individual pieces as well as an entire set list for a concert. We extrapolate the trends to calculate an estimate readiness date, giving directors early indicators on where to put the focus in rehearsals.

It has once again been a while since I last posted. I'm heading into the final stretch of trimester 3, with a residential school in two weeks. With it comes a mix of anticipation and nerves. I've found myself spending time on Livewire again, which has felt great in the midst of study pressures. Health-wise, I’ve had some solid wins after receiving my bloods back this last week. My blood sugars are down from 9 to 6, with cholesterol sitting at 4.2. This is a sign that the work is paying off. Musically, I’ve been on a break from choir but not sure when rehearsals resume. We are starting the year fresh with a new music director and I'm not sure when he starts. One step at a time as things are moving forward.

I am posting a recording from our church choir of Saint Richard’s Prayer.
Today I sang soprano instead of my usual alto. After years on alto it felt new and challenging. I still freeze sometimes in rehearsal since changes in music directors and difficulty getting scores. It is improving, slowly but surely.
I am on a short break from my master’s program, though I will still study a little. Week after next I will help with a seven day online autism wellbeing event, supporting the team with editing and drop-in sessions for facilitators.
I just received my first assessment back and was surprised with a High Distinction. The work was exhausting, but the result feels encouraging.
This week I am taking things a bit easier and sharing this music with you.

Today in therapy I cried harder than I ever have before. The feelings came in waves and each time they passed I felt a little lighter. Now a headache is threatening so I have put on Fauré’s Requiem, which I have sung many times and always find calming. I had a burger with the lot tonight and it was good. Tomorrow the children will visit and I will be singing again in church. I know I will enjoy the chant once again. #Therapy #MusicHelps #ChoirLife #AuDHD

Happy Resurrection Day for all that celebrate; He is risen indeed. Church was epic, if not tiring. I am now totally exhausted after four services—but the choir has a week off now.
I’ve been reflecting a lot lately. After a deep piece of inner work recently, something shifted. A core wound healed. Now comes the uncomfortable part—rebuilding. It feels like walking through a desert trying to rediscover a sense of authentic identity.
Recent weeks have been overwhelming. Not due to trauma responses, but because I don’t yet have the tools for certain life situations. It’s not about regulation—it’s about practical gaps in how to ask for support, meet needs, or manage when key supports fall through. Sometimes asking for help feels impossible, especially when previous models were harmful.
I’ve also realised that I often avoid asking questions not because I don’t care, but because I don’t know how to ask them in a way that gets helpful responses. Sometimes they come out as statements instead. I want to understand people better—how they think, how they form impressions—but I struggle to frame it in ways others find acceptable. The fear of disapproval is real.
It’s a season of stretching, reshaping, and relearning.

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate, and warm wishes for the holiday season to those who don’t. For the first time in years, I’m genuinely looking forward to the festivities. I’ll be singing at both Midnight Mass and the Christmas morning service. It’s stressful, as I’m still recovering from a brutal cold—my voice is holding, but the coughing persists. I haven’t rehearsed the Christmas music with the choir due to this, which is challenging as the scholar, but I’ll give it my best.
After the services, the children will join for Christmas lunch: chicken, Greek, egg, seafood, and pasta salads, followed by sweets. Boxing Day will be for sleeping and recovering! Wishing you all peace and joy.

Here’s a snapshot of my week:
Tuesday – Shoe shopping for better performance footwear (my current ones caused blisters—walking is still painful!) and a therapy appointment.
Wednesday – Meeting with the university accessibility department, weekly church service and morning tea catch-up (great for practicing social interactions), and a rehearsal at night.
Thursday – Exercise and the general rehearsal for the upcoming Messiah performances.
Friday – Performing in Bendigo.
Saturday and Sunday – Performing in Melbourne, plus choral scholar commitments in the mornings.#BusyWeek #ChoirLife #Messiah #Accessibility #MentalHealth #SocialInteraction #PerformancePrep

Tonight’s rehearsal didn’t go well. I felt exposed being the only alto, and after a few mistakes, I just couldn’t sing anymore. The music stopped making sense until we switched to something familiar. Frustrating when anxiety takes over and derails progress. Grateful for small comforts like a warm drink afterwards.
