Humans exposed to #chlorpyrifos prenatally are more likely to exhibit structural brain abnormalities and reduced motor functions in childhood and adolescence.
"The disturbances in brain tissue and metabolism that we observed with prenatal exposure to this one pesticide were remarkably widespread throughout the brain," says first author Bradley Peterson.

Safety Beach is not safe for Brush Turkeys
" The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) is investigating the poisoning of around 10 native Brush Turkeys at Safety Beach near Coffs Harbour, the second such incident in just two years. Laboratory testing of several dead birds collected from the area has found high concentrations of the pesticide chlorpyrifos, the same chemical detected when another group of Brush Turkeys was poisoned at Safety Beach in 2023. Chlorpyrifos is an agricultural pesticide used for insect control and is banned for domestic and urban use in NSW. "

"The negligent use of pesticides in a manner that harms any non-target animal, or plant can attract penalties of up to $500,000 for an individual and $2,000,000 for a corporation."

#EPA Again Seeks Limits on a Harmful #Pesticide
After a court overturned a ban, agency proposed restricting #chlorpyrifos to 11 food crops, illustrating limits of federal regulation. Chlorpyrifos is an #insecticide valued by farmers because it is inexpensive and kills wide range of insects and pests. But high levels of exposure to this class of pesticides, called #organophosphates, can lead to neurological effects such as tremors, fatigue & nausea.

The Environmental Protection Agency took two notable actions yesterday. First, #EPA opted to not pursue an appeal of a ruling from the #EighthCircuit Court of Appeals that invalidated EPA's rescinding the registration of #chlorpyrifos. EPA had revoked the insecticide's approval citing concerns about neurological impacts, but #soybean and #fruit grower associations are expressing relief that the product will remain an option for farmers.

A #pesticide reportedly developed by the Nazis for #chemicalWarfare, known as #chlorpyrifos, commonly used to control pests in #agriculture since 1965 has finally been banned by the #EPA, after being banned in #California by a courtOrder last year.
It is proved to cause #developmentalProblems, lower #learning, #hyperactivity and #anxiety.
The use of it is not banned in #Australia, but is apparently regulated.
Despite being banned for household use traces are present in 75% of US citizens.
