  1. Three allotment photos from this lunchtime.
The first picture is for context - it's a table made of a metal frame with a rotting chipboard and formica top.

We've seen solitary leafcutter bees going into the chipboard edge for a few weeks, and today I decided to try to photo them.
I'll never make a wildlife photographer - insufficient patience!
But you can just see a couple of the bees in the next two pictures.

These leafcutter bees are important pollinators and it's fascinating to watch them carrying pieces of leaf into the burrows in the table edge.

  6. Taking apart an old bedhead and -foot from the loft, in poor condition with no further use, scavenging useful bits. Strangely for something I thought was made in the 1930s or 40s, with a nitrocellulose varnish, it turns out to be oak-veneered chipboard. Was #chipboard used so early?

(Made by Sidhill, 30s-40s style, probably came out of a nurses' home in #Stornoway since we got it from a friend who got it around 1970 when she arrived and started work at the old Lewis Hospital.)
