Understood. Something isn't sitting right, though.

Maybe we need to talk to other servers to try and identify what is going on here.

Our impression is that either other instances are blocking us for no good reason, or our server itself has been hacked/compomised in some way.

Sad... but that is our take. One example, come to think of it, we've not seen any Chinwag.org activity in months.

We can't spend time on a platform if we're being muzzled.

I finally tweaked the old "temporary" logo that #Chinwag has been using for nearly five years now!

Figured out enough about some drawing tools to trace over the thing and actually create a proper SVG copy of it, instead of going back to the same old crappy bit of mangled clipart I found back when Chinwag was just an example for a tutorial blog post.

I still know nothing about design but at least it scales nicely now!

@vanitasvitae is there any documentation on doing this at the moment? I looked into it ages ago but nothing seemed to exist in a stable form then. Any tips?

I'm about to move the #Chinwag XMPP services to a new server and I'd love to add that capability for my users while I'm at it.

If any #Chinwag users don't have or can't afford a password manager service, message me and I'll invite you to the Chinwag-hosted Bitwarden server.

There's no cost, it's full featured, even the organisation and sharing options you'd normally pay for. You just use the regular Bitwarden apps and browser extensions with it.

You won't be able to invite others yourself (right now, until I see how it scales) - but if you've got a few friends and family you'd like to add, just hit me up.

I've been trying to make my friends join #xmpp and the #fediverse, so #chinwag gives me one service I can recommend to them 🙂 🙃

I missed the #birthday by about a week since I was living in the mountains and being a hermit, but #chinwag has now had a #Mastodon instance running for a year.

Met some cool people here, it's been great!

Apologies for the #Chinwag downtime tonight, I tried something that didn't work. I'll write about it when it's not 3:30am. My pulse went through the roof at one point when I thought I'd trashed the database by accident, but apparently I'm not that dumb!

As a side note, the new Chinwag Light theme is now the default! It's not perfect but it's better.

You can go into Preferences and select "Chinwag Old" as your theme if you liked that. Mastodon Default and Mastodon Light are also available!

I knocked up the #Chinwag logo in 10 minutes from some public domain clipart about three years ago as a placeholder and it still exists as the only logo or social media profile icon I have for it and it's really starting to bug me.

Its filename on disk is still chinwag-logo-temp.

I need to do something about this on the weekend I think.
