  1. yah! #ChineseSpyBalloon part stupider.

The sudden and unexpected closure of the airspace over El Paso, Texas, appears to have stemmed from the US federal government conducting drone-related tests.

The 10-day closure, which ultimately ended hours after it was announced late Tuesday, caused a mass panic in the US-Mexico border city, with the mayor telling the BBC that the chaos "was completely unnecessary".

The US Department of Defense said the airspace issue was due to the military disabling drones being used by Mexican cartels.

But CBS News, the BBC's news partner, said the closure followed a test earlier this week, where an energy laser was used to shoot down what appeared to be a foreign drone, but was actually a party balloon.

  10. "China appears to have suspended its surveillance balloon program following a major diplomatic incident earlier this year, when one of the country’s high-altitude spy balloons transited the United States, multiple sources familiar with US intelligence assessments told CNN."

"The FBI concluded its analysis of the balloon’s remnants earlier this year, and the Pentagon announced in June that the US government assessed that the balloon did not collect intelligence while flying over the country."

Honestly imo the second quote, (read the article for more), that is a lot of behind covering going on. On both China and the US side. They also still refuse to release information about the 2 other shoot downs.

  18. nbcnews.com/politics/national- Chinese spy balloon gathered intelligence from sensitive U.S. military sites, despite U.S. efforts to block it

The intelligence China collected was mostly from electronic signals, which can be picked up from weapons systems or include communications from base personnel.

  21. So maybe the funniest thing about the #ChineseSpyBalloon might be that up close, it looks exactly the way a cheap cartoon of a cut-rate communist country's budget spy satellite would look like.
    "This satellite goes to space?"
    "是不是, mostly to space"

  27. Oh Facebook, Twitter, TikTok and a bit of Reddit are having a day today -

"Explosions or something is falling from the sky" is probably really plane contrails against the sun making them appear black. So many posts freaking out after the #chinesespyballoon mania.

Is the dirt spots on cars from the rain here in New England today and smell really dust from an Oklahoma dust storm instead of the Ohio derailment? Probably. wgme.com/news/local/dirty-rain

  28. I'm not impressed with President Biden's statement on the #UFO #UAP shootdowns. Apparently we could mitigate against surveillance concerns with the #ChineseSpyBalloon, but not the other objects. Furthermore, the main reason for shooting them down appears to be that they were at commercial traffic altitudes. The current intel assessment is that the three other objects were balloons owned by companies or researchers. If that's true, are we scrambling fighters to intercept all the others that are probably out there still? The whole thing is a mess and validates that the government and especially the USAF and NORAD are behind the times on this important situation. youtube.com/live/rEibBLZXweA?f

This whole incident reminds me of this vintage 1979 episode of "Project U.F.O." - "The Whitman Tower Incident" (S2E12)

Apparently the Project #UFO TV series was based on actual Project BLUE BOOK casefiles.
