Fermented Friday: August 29, 2025 – Winking Lizard Tavern
Back to Winking Lizard to continue my beer tour. I had two at the tavern and took two home with me, one of which led a weird flavor experience. Regardless, I am now at 42 beers for the year on the tour. Chimay White trippel: At 7% ABV, I’m glad this is only an 11.2 oz can, because the flavor and body of this beer is pretty easy to drink. That's the weekend all done, just the little matter of getting back to Northumberland now.
All going well until customs, etc. for the Tunnel, which took for-fucking-ever. And it's started raining, too.
Fingers crossed for good traffic conditions back in the UK.

Big thunderstorm last night. One flash-bang was so close that I took my eye mask off to make sure the tent was still there.
Mixed weather, but eventually the sun came out. Probably too much sun, because we didn't need to hide from it so much
Big delay before lunch: sidecars came out, then stopped, for a long time. Not sure what happened, "little crash, but a good crash" according to the announcement. Maybe a spillage that needed more cleaning.
Still lots of good racing.

Watching some sidecars this morning. Two classes in the same race, so a huge variation in performance. At least all the chairs are on the same side this time, that's not always the case.

Managed to stagger to the circuit today and watch some racing! Okay, we also listened to some racing from inside beer tents, but soaking up the atmosphere is part of the experience, right?
It was stupidly hot today, and the promised thunderstorm didn't turn up. Last race of the day was a 3hr endurance session, complete with rider swaps and refuelling. I don't envy the spare riders having to stand around in full leathers, or the pit crew in full safety gear.

Saturday morning, just a couple of hours to get down to Chimay. Planned on a stop for fuel and coffee, but ended up at an "express" station that was just petrol, dammit.
I must've smelt particularly pungent when I walked into the campsite reception, got given a secluded pitch of my own.
Planned on heading to the circuit, but someone I knew was at a bar in town, and I couldn't leave them drinking alone, so… we didn't get very far.

I'm not saying it's warm, but the motorbikes tootling around town are leaving black tyre marks on the paved areas.

Set off from Northumberland this morning, just stopping once for fuel; I was hungry and thirsty, rather than the bike needing petrol.
Not a great journey: too hot, too much traffic, and I had to remember how to filter on a fully-laden bike, or I'd have been stuck for ages. People were getting out of their vehicles and wandering around, the horn got a good testing.
Late for my Tunnel check-in slot, but seemed to end up on roughly the right train.

Think I'm as packed as I can be until tomorrow morning, ready to head to Chimay¹; just a few things I can't pack until the morning. And I'm not loading the bike until it's out of the garage because it's big and heavy enough as it is, never mind adding panniers, tent and kitchen sink.
Hopefully the weather stays decent tomorrow and "LeShuttle" is behaving. Hope I can remember the way…
