Here's a couple of samples of this year's superhot #chilli varieties from the #allotment greenhouse, the big one is a Naga Morich which is our core "superhot" - it is a classic, hard to beat for balance of heat/flavour/aroma.
The evil little pointy bastard is a 7 Pot Primo and... wow... this is our first year successfully growing some (we tried and failed last year) and I thought the Naga has a "presence" when I cut it, but the 7PP hit me in the face with its aroma by comparison. There's a lot going on in this little chilli.
I am conservative in my superhot growing, basically I have a slot for the Naga as our core sauce-maker, and I have a slot for one "other" - this year it is the 7 Pot, next year maybe something different. I am tempted to make it 2x "other" superhots next year. (For context: things like scotch bonnets and habaneros do not count as superhots as nowhere near the million scoville mark, they're merely the "hot" chillies.)

Almost forgot to do a Friday (OK, Saturday early hours) #HotFridge check.
I'm a bit confused as I thought I did a Thursday one, but I don't see a record of it here... I'll do a re-org of the little pots tomorrow and if there's a diff between what's on the grow light shelf and what's documented here I'll fill that in... (as this thread has become my primary record of chilli germination lol).
Just now moved from #HotFridge to #GrowShelf we have:
1x Naga Morich (yay!) - X2 (1 pot)
1x BB Mama - X6 (1 pot)
2x Bishop's Crown - X10 (1 pot)
1x Rocoto Marlene - Y1 (1 pot)
1x KangStarr Sweet QueenHi - Y9 (1 pot)
2x KanStarr Lingria - Y10 (1 pot)
3x Chilli Chump Piri Piri - Y12 (2 post) -

Next day, EVEN M04R CH1ll13Z!!
Also super-chuffed that my 7 Pot Primos have germinated so soon! These can be a bastard to germinate. Turns out my "abuse" of them leaving on a wet tissue for over a week after the chamomile soak hasn't done any harm. They hadn't sprouted yet when I planted them but they were clearly close. No doubt the 28C of the #HotFridge did the rest, and *boom*... under 2 days later we have 3 or 4 up and out of the soil.
Today's additions to the #GrowShelf:
3x 7 Pot Primo (X1)
3x Kashmiri Mirch (Y3)
3x Candy Cane Chocolate Cherry (Y4)
4x Biquinho Red (Y6)
3x Thunder Mountain Longhorn (Y7)
2x KangStarr StarrLing (Y8)
1x Beaver Dam (Y11)
4x Chilli Chump Piri Piri (Y12) -

First #chillies have graduated from the #HotFridge to the #GrowShelf ... speedy!
I take them out when at least one seedling in a pot has both cotyledons well open. The goal is for one strong seedling per pot. Though I may consider pricking out one of the two to another pot if another pot fails or I want more of that plant.
Here we have:
2x Aji Mango (X8) <-edit
3x Sugar Rush Stripey (X13)
4x Trinidad Perfume (X4)
3x Tangerine Tiger (X12)
3x Chilli Chump Jalapeño (X14)
3x Scotch Bonnet (X5)
3x Madre Veija (X11) -

104 seeds, 52 little pots, 28 varieties - that's the #chillies in the #HotFridge...
Some I popped in on Thursday evening have popped up already - these were somewhat pre-sprouted on wet paper.
Next up will be the eggplant and capsicum seeds.
I'll wait until second half of Feb for the tomatoes and similar.

And this is round-2 of the #chillies into their chamomile bath. The first round are actually currently sat under a cover on damp paper towel as I've not had time to get them into pots yet, generally this is fine, you can actually germinate them this way and plant only those that germinate - I've seen some folks do it this way.
I'll make the time tomorrow hopefully, I'm up against some strong alternative priorities right now.
Anyway, round-2 is in for their chamomile soak. ANOTHER 14 varieties... I've gone mad... 28 varieties this year? Bonkers. REALLY need to get that greenhouse finished at the #allotment!

Postal excitement!
I wasn't going to be buying any more chilli seeds this year, but I cannot find any rocoto seeds and its a variety I really want to grow again. So I fired an order into the Chilli Chump Seeds shop: https://chillichumpseeds.com/
Of course one does not just buy ONE packet of seeds lol... so two rocoto varieties, some Kashmiri Mirch, and a couple of interesting purple/multi-shade varieties in both the mild and quite-hot departments.
Plus the bonus/freebie Khang Starr variety: KS StarrLing

Today I put holes into the bottom of a soda can, filled it with small rocks and gardening soil and planted two small "Bolivian Rainbow" chilies in it, that I had sown a few weeks ago.
As chance would have it, I just yesterday cleaned an empty #sriracha bottle which will make the perfectly fitting watering can for this project 😃
This is my entry to the #pepperinacan challenge here on mastodon.

I've not tried Scotch Bonnet peppers before but I definitely want to eventually, even if it melts my esophagus lol.

Made Goulash for these cold days. Extra spicy :ablobcatbongo:
Goulash with beef and a little bacon. A standard recipe with caraway and majoram, onion, bell pepper, carrot, potato, fresh and canned tomato and of course chilis.
I used for 1 kg 2.2lb meat fresh:
2x 7-pot Barrackpore
3 Scotch brain yellow
1 tsp Cayenne powder and 2 tsp sweetpepper for some smokey aroma.
All together about 3 liters. (~0.8 US gal, ~0,65 UK gal)#chilifun #chili #chilli #chilihead #chills #chilipepper #goulash #stew #7potbarrackpore #scotchbrainyellow

My two window chilis.
A Thai Birds Eye (left) and a Chiero Roxa. These have been growing since Ferbruary 2023 inside at an East facing window.
The Thai is from seeds bought locally in Thailand and the Chiero Roxa are said to come from Brazil. They have been suffering from aphid infestation but they have lacewing larva patrolling their foliage and the aphids are almost gone. I topped the Chiero Roxa in April and have been rewarded with many peppers. I didn't top the Thai as it was very slow in the beginning and it's only now starting to fruit.

I have been having a continued attack by aphids on my window sill chilis. I tried manually removing them but it was futile. Winged ones fly in and multiply quickly. Insecticidal soap was unsuccessful as my chilis didn't like that. After 2 weeks of that I finally accepted I need help for this in the form of the merciless special forces: Chrysoperla carnea larvae!
Otherwise known as the Common Green Lacewing larva these brutal helpers will hunt and eat aphids, thrips, spidermites, whitefly and more.
Here are three pictures of them. The second one shows one eating an aphid.

Seed starting
This is how I usually start my seeds especially if there are too few or rare ones.
I wash all utensils well.
I use 2-5 seeds depending on fertility and amount I have for each chili plant. I soak them for 1 day in distilled water or 1% Potassium Nitrate in an ice cube tray at room temperature. I cover that with plastic film/bag.
The next day I place them in a plastic tray with an air tight lid to contain the moisture. I place the seeds on 4-5 layers of moist, not wet kitchen paper to maintain moisture. I also use a small 7W heat mat with thermostat and a thermometer with a sensor and keep it between 27 and 29°C (80-85°F). I place the tray in a waterbath to keep the temperature stable. I normally have high sprout rates >60% and mostly within 10 days, even with older seeds. (I've had good rates with 9 year old Ghost seeds.)

I had some fun making chilpaste based on Nam Prik Pao but with yellow chilis. This is my method:
Recipe
2 sweet bell peppers chopped (yellow)
2 fresh Scotch Brains Yellow (heat:10+)
5 cloves of fresh garlic
3 tbsp fishsauce
2 tbsp rice vinegar
3 tbsp vegetable oil
4 tbsp sugar
½ tsp salt:science: Roast the unpeeled garlic cloves and chopped onions without oil until just browning. Remove and set aside.
Roast the chopped chilis the same way in the same pan.
Add all ingredients to a blender or food processor. Pulse a few times or longer for a smoother texture.
Add 1 tbsp vegetable oil to the pan and cook the blend for 10-15 until it thickens and darkens in color. Keep mixing to avoid burning.Makes about 250ml. Keeps for a couple of weeks in the fridge. It's good as a condiment, on toast or ingredient for other dishes.
