  3. Throwback project from 2005 !!

I brought my old NES back to life by turning it into a giant handheld console, just like a Gameboy. It took a lot of work to fit everything into a small case that I built myself out of Lexan. I used a cheap controller with turbo buttons and a screen from a PlayStation 1. I even managed to squeeze in a rechargeable battery that lasts for over 3 hours!

The hardest part was making sure everything fit together and worked properly without changing the way the NES played games. I wanted to keep the original sound and feel, and I didn't want to use one of those imitation chips. In the end, it turned out a little heavy, but it's comfortable to hold and definitely worth the effort!

  4. #VGMWednesday

There's plenty of choices for music I loved from games I played as a kid, but I decided to pick something a little more obscure.

One of my favorite games growing up was H.E.D.Z. You play as an alien wearing masks (made from humans 💀 ) that give you different powers. This track plays in the playground themed levels and always intrigued me for having the sound of children playing as part of the song.

This one came to my mind instantly, probably because it's so powerful and emotional 😭

  6. @miona 's #VGMWednesday day yayyyyyy!

This week's theme being #childhoodgames , I chose one of the first track baby me was opening the game for, not to play it, but just to listen to the cheesy intro. From #Sega 's #SonicCD , here is Sonic Boom!

  7. For @miona ‘s #VgmWednesday the theme this week is #ChildhoodGames

So since I grew up on late 70s and 80s arcade games, that should be an easy pick.
Selecting Bubble Bobble feels like cheating, although it might be s good entry for an ear worms episode?

So I’m picking a game that’s very dear to my me and one I keep returning to year after year: Elevator Action by Taito.

  8. 70’s started it all! #vgmwednesday #childhoodgames #childhoodgaming

Pitfall on an Atari2600 occupied many many hours. Gaming the OG 8 bit way!

  9. #VGMWednesday by @miona has the theme of #ChildhoodGames from @mdmrn

The first game that came to mind was Rock n Roll Racing on SNES. 16 bit versions of actual rock songs like George Thorogood & The Destroyers "Bad To The Bone", Black Sabbat "Paranoid", and more.

  10. Hooo, #VGMWednesday, by @miona !

And the theme is #ChildhoodGames, chosen by @mdmrn

Ok, yeah, I played the old SuperMario Bros game on NES, but... It was at friend's home. I played (and play) mainly from PC.

So, one game I remember from it was... Commander Keen saga!

This is a track from Commander Keen 4: Goodbye Galaxy

  11. I'm going to join @[email protected] in showing my age this #VGMWednesday We're talking #ChildhoodGames this week, and for me that means countless afternoons lying on the landing with the family's Amstrad CPC 464 plugged into my parents' bedroom.

One game I spent plenty of time on was the tie-in game for the original Ghostbusters movie (which I didn't watch until my late teens as it happens). I wasn't that good at it, but I certainly played the heck out of it!

Here's the game's rendition of Ray Parker Jr's theme song, which played in full every time you loaded the game (which already took ages to do in the first place, mind you, so you had to be sure of what you wanted to play in those days!)

  12. Today on #VGMWednesday it's about #ChildhoodGames
Well, here is proof that y'all are much younger than me, because in my
childhood video game music wasn't a thing. 😅 Video games barely were.

But, the first PC-based video game I got for myself (on a Mac no less) was "Glider". A simple platform-like dexterity-based puzzle game with a great editor software and lovingly crafted pixel art environs. I was 18 at the time but I think it still counts. I made such a cool set of levels with it. Still a bit proud of it.

Also, just thinking about Glider makes the theme play in my head for the rest of the day.

  13. This week for #VGMWednesday, @miona picked my theme of #ChildhoodGames!

Time to pick up some nostalgic video game music.

Normally, this is where I go with a Sonic game. Not today.

Let's travel back to the early 90s when I had borrowed a copy of Bart vs the Space Mutants from a friend. That is the #TheSimpsons NES / Master System game where Bart is battling aliens that have invaded Springfield. It's...dumb, but I can't forget some of these tunes. youtube.com/watch?v=NLjxJ48UBg

  14. The Theme of Todays #VGMWednesday theme is #ChildhoodGames, so share your nostalgia songs!

Mine has to be Burn my Dread from the #Persona 3 Soundtrack.
As a Child I really loved this song and still do to this day. It perfectly summarizes the mood of Persona 3 to me.

This might be cheating since it’s not an OST but does anyone remember Road Rash?

  16. It's a bit late childhood, but I spent a LOT of hours playing this one back in the days on PSOne. And @miona gave me the good old building games vibe with her own today's pick.😄

So, for #VgmWednesday #ChildhoodGames, here is the super chill Wonder Land music from Theme Park World!

  17. My pick for todays #vgmwednesday theme #ChildhoodGames is:

Legend of Kyrandia (OST, adlib and hig quality FLAC version) is one of the earlier point and click adventures that I loved playing as a kid - allthough it was quite difficult without the internet 😄
    Emerald Room is very relaxing

Also great: Timbermist Woods, Pool of Sorrow, Caves and more

Bonus: fan-made enhanced MT-32 tracks, Check out these strings and guitars in Pool of Sorrow

  18. @miona @mdmrn
#VgmWednesday #ChildhoodGames wow, a lot of my childhood happened during the 8 bit PC game era, indeed the first console to become popular in South Africa were SNES knock offs and that didn't happen until the early 1990s.

Those 8 bit PC games didn't usually have much music due to only supporting single channel sound, which was left for effects.
But titie screens often had theme songs. Like this classic.

  19. Sitting in the garden, thinking about marbles.

Correction: The glass marbles with the wavy lines weren’t the cat’s eyes- cats eyes were black ceramic marbles with a slice of bright colour running pole to pole.
